  • Achieving Optimized QoR with ProtoCompiler on Mixed HAPS-70 & HAPS-80 Systems

    SNUG Silicon Valley 2017

This paper discusses the challenges in partitioning a complex SOC on mixed HAPS-80 and HAPS-70 systems. HAPS ProtoCompiler was used to help guide the prototyping team in creating a partition that met the clocking requirements for software development and hardware verification. The partition flow starts by leveraging TSS files with placement of daughterboard, followed by an abstract flow to figure out cabling requirements using multiple partition trials with ProtoCompiler partitioner and some…

This paper discusses the challenges in partitioning a complex SOC on mixed HAPS-80 and HAPS-70 systems. HAPS ProtoCompiler was used to help guide the prototyping team in creating a partition that met the clocking requirements for software development and hardware verification. The partition flow starts by leveraging TSS files with placement of daughterboard, followed by an abstract flow to figure out cabling requirements using multiple partition trials with ProtoCompiler partitioner and some manual placement. Internal matrices are then used to maximize direct nets utilization and optimized TDM ratios with an effort to reduce multi-hops, cut clocks, and find an optimized partition. The end goal is to achieve a workable solution quickly with as much automation as possible, and then use our experience to lock down the partition, tweak partition decisions and TDM ratios to gain additional performance improvements.

This award was given to me for supporting a major Consumer Company in South Korea in Successfully Prototyping their Application processor with ARM Processor on a HAPS 64 System. There were high stakes involved and the customer was extremely unhappy with the HW and SW products. I have visited the customer in person, had multiple rounds of meetings with their VP and Principle engineers and gained their confidence that the issues will be resolved. And with the expertise of my team members and my…

And with the expertise of my team members and my experience in FPGAs, we have resolved the issue in a timely manner.
