Why Italy (and Europe) need the GCC to join the global AI race Italy offers world-class talent and regulatory leadership. However, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 in AI infrastructure, compute, and capital. By extension, EU has no way to import cheap energy (given the sanctions on Russia). These are the hottest AI projects in EU right now: • Italy's Vitruvian-1 (by ASC27 s.r.l.), best LLM after o1 and R1. • EU €54m investment in 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐋𝐋𝐌 (developed by 20 countries) This has captured the attention of the GCC sovereign funds which have started to invest in several EU projects: → 𝐔𝐀𝐄 is backing a $50B AI data center in France → 𝐒𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢 will invest €10B in AI-driven data center in Italy → 𝐐𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐫 is investing $550M in regional AI infrastructure in EU This would cover the capital gap that EU has, however the energy gap still remains. Intelligence of an AI = {compute x time} Which means A LOT of energy required to power data centers. ⚡ With the recent €10B Italy-Saudi deal, Rome will import blue/green hydrogen produced in NEOM. Once again, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐂𝐂 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐀𝐈 𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞.

Proton released a zero-knowledge AI assistant called Lumo.
