sione, per studiosi e ricercatori specialisti in questo campo specifico di studio, di esporre i
risultati delle loro ricerche e confrontarli con gli altri. Partecipano anche gli studenti, in par-

ticolar modo i dottorandi, specialmente del Dipartimento di teologia biblica della Facoltà di
teologia della nostra Università.
La parte più ampia è consacrata alle analisi di testi, soprattutto della Bibbia — Antico
e Nuovo Testamento —, ma anche di altri testi semitici, come il Corano, e più in
generale di testi influenzati dalla letteratura biblica semitica, come la Regola di san Francesco Graziano – Roland Meynet, ed.
Benedetto. Non mancano infine riflessioni metodologiche, per approfondire qualche
aspetto della nostra metodologia esegetica.

Rhetoric» organizes a conference at the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome). It’s a great

opportunity for scholars specialized in this specific field of exegesis to expound the results
of their research and compare them with others. Also students participate, especially PhD International Studies on Biblical & Semitic Rhetoric
students, in particular of the Department of biblical theology of our Faculty of theology.
The largest part of the conference is devoted to analysis of texts, especially of the Bible
— Old and New Testament —, but also of other Semitic texts such as the Koran, even other
texts widely influenced by biblical texts, such as the Rule of St. Benedict. There are also
methodological reflections, to deepen some aspect of our exegetical methodology.

SOCIETÀ INTERNAZIONALE PER LO STUDIO DELLA RETORICA BIBLICA E SEMITICA

Esistono molte associazioni che hanno come oggetto lo studio della retorica. La più
conosciuta è la «Società internazionale per la storia della retorica»; ma ce ne sono anche
altre. La RBS è la sola:
• che si dedica esclusivamente allo studio delle opere letterarie semitiche, essenzialmente
la Bibbia, ma anche di altre, fra cui i testi musulmani;
• che di conseguenza si preoccupa di elencare e descrivere le leggi specifiche di una
retorica che ha presieduto alla elaborazione di testi, la cui importanza non è per nulla
inferiore a quella del mondo greco e latino del quale la civiltà occidentale è l’erede. Né
bisognerebbe dimenticare che questa stessa civiltà occidentale è anche erede della
tradizione giudaico cristiana, che trova la sua origine nella Bibbia, cioè nel mondo
semitico. Più in generale, i testi che noi studiamo sono i testi fondatori di tre grandi
religioni: giudaismo, cristianesimo e islam. Un tale studio scientifico, condizione
previa per una migliore conoscenza reciproca, non farebbe che concorrere a un
ravvicinamento tra coloro che proclamano di appartenere a queste diverse tradizioni.
La RBS promuove e sostiene la formazione, le ricerche e le pubblicazioni:
• soprattutto nel campo biblico, tanto del Nuovo quanto dell’Antico Testamento;
• ma anche nel campo degli altri testi semitici, specie dell’Islam;
• e perfino in autori nutriti con i testi biblici, come s. Benedetto e Blaise Pascal.
La RBS accoglie e raggruppa prima di tutto ricercatori e professori universitari che,
nelle diverse università o istituti, lavorano nel campo della Retorica Biblica e Semitica;
incoraggia in tutti i modi gli studenti, soprattutto dottorandi, nell’apprendimento delle
tecniche di analisi a lei proprie. Essa è aperta anche a quanti si interessano alle sue ricerche
e intendono sostenerle.

Rhetorica Biblica et Semitica

Molti pensano che la retorica classica, ereditata dai Greci attraverso i Romani, sia uni-
versale. Essa sembra infatti normare la cultura moderna, che l’Occidente ha diffuso su tutto
il Pianeta. Ma è giunto ormai il tempo di abbandonare un tale etnocentrismo: la retorica
classica non è unica al mondo.

La Bibbia ebraica, i cui testi sono scritti soprattutto in ebraico ma anche in aramaico,
segue una retorica ben diversa della retorica greco-latina. Bisogna dunque riconoscere che
esiste un’altra retorica, la «retorica ebraica».

Quanto agli altri testi biblici, dell’Antico e del Nuovo Testamento, che sono stati tra-
dotti o composti direttamente in greco, essi obbediscono in gran parte alle stesse leggi. Si
può dunque parlare non solo di retorica ebraica ma, più largamente, di «retorica biblica».

Queste stesse leggi sono state inoltre riconosciute operanti nei testi accadici, ugaritici e
altri, precedenti o coevi alla Bibbia ebraica, poi nei testi arabi della Tradizione musulmana
e del Corano, successivi alla letteratura biblica. Occorre dunque ammettere che questa reto-
rica non è solo biblica; e si dirà che tutti quei testi, che appartengono, a diverso titolo, alla
stessa area culturale, dipendono della stessa retorica, che verrà chiamata «retorica semitica».

Contrariamente all’impressione che il lettore occidentale inevitabilmente prova, i testi

della tradizione semitica sono composti e ben composti, a condizione ovviamente di essere
analizzati in funzione della retorica alla quale appartengono. Si sa che la forma del testo, la
sua disposizione, è la porta principale che apre l’accesso al senso. Non che la composizione
fornisca, direttamente e automaticamente, il significato. Quando tuttavia l’analisi formale
permette di operare una divisione ragionata del testo, di definire in modo più oggettivo il
suo contesto, di mettere in evidenza l’organizzazione dell’opera ai diversi livelli della sua
architettura, allora si trovano riunite le condizioni che permettono d’intraprendere, su basi
meno soggettive e frammentarie, il lavoro dell’interpretazione.
 Presentazione

L’Associazione internazionale per lo studio della Retorica Biblica e Semitica

ha svolto il suo sesto convegno internazionale dal 27 al 29 settembre 2018, nella
sede della Pontificia Università Gregoriana, presso la cui Facoltà di Teologia è
ormai integrata.
Come per ognuno dei nostri convegni, la partecipazione internazionale dei
contributori ha potuto vantare anche per questo anno differenti provenienze, con
articoli che coprono ben quattro aree linguistiche: oltre all’italiano, il francese,
l’inglese e lo spagnolo. La rosa dei contributori conta, per questo volume,
quattro professori di Università esterne alla Gregoriana, tra cui l’Università di
Varsavia in Polonia, la Catholic University of Portugal di Lisbona, la Seoul
National University in Corea del Sud, e l’Università degli Studi di Roma Tre.
Apre il volume un articolo che celebra il ricordo e indica il lavoro esegetico di
P. Jacek Oniszczuk S.I., a un anno dalla sua scomparsa. Ci è parso doveroso,
oltre a essere spinti dal legame affettivo e umano, ricordare adeguatamente
P. Jacek, membro fondatore e Tesoriere della RBS e così presentare il suo
operato nello studio della letteratura giovannea. L’articolo è mirabilmente
sviluppato da Carlos Alberto Santos García, dottorato di P. Oniszczuk presso il
Dipartimento di Teologia Biblica della Gregoriana.
Le prime due parti del volume non potevano che riguardare lo studio dei due
corpi della Scrittura. Per l’Antico Testamento, un articolo riguarda la Torah,
l’altro il Libro di Giobbe. Marek Baraniak esercita una critica riflessiva a
proposito del Parallelismo di Giano in Gen 2,1; a partire da questa, egli sviluppa
piuttosto la soluzione di una lettura complementare per i due racconti di crea-
zione in Genesi, avvalorata dagli strumenti offerti proprio dalla retorica biblica e
semitica. Per il Libro di Giobbe, Luísa Maria Almendra completa il suo articolo
precedente, pubblicato negli Atti del Quinto Convegno, analizzando l’intervento
di Dio in Gb 40,25–41,26.
Per il Nuovo Testamento i primi quattro articoli riguardano i Vangeli (Matteo
e Giovanni). Francesco Graziano presenta la prima parte di uno studio retorico
della sequenza riconosciuta in Mt 15,1–16,12; Roberto di Paolo procede
nell’analisi dei capitoli che riguardano il ministero di Gesù a Gerusalemme, con
uno studio retorico biblico di Mt 21,1-27. Per il Quarto Vangelo, Carlos Alberto
Santos García propone un articolo sulla Cristologia e sulla Soteriologia che
scaturisce dalla composizione di Gv 3,1-36, mentre Timothy Chikweto si soffer-
ma sulla composizione e sul messaggio di Gv 4,5-18, riconosciuta come una
delle sottosequenze del celebre capitolo giovanneo.

Altri tre articoli completano la seconda parte: Ciro Quispe — nel frattempo
nominato vescovo di Juli, sul Lago Titicaca in Perù — entra nel campo dell’epi-
stolario paolino, sviluppando l’analisi retorica di 1Ts 2,17–3,13; Javier Lopéz si
sofferma sull’analisi della sottosequenza di apertura del Libro dell’Apocalisse
(Ap 1,1-8); conclude la seconda parte uno studio contestuale di Heon Kim (il
riferimento è in questo caso alle peripezie dell’Odissea omerica), sull’interpre-
tazione metaforica del viaggio di Paolo verso Roma narrato in At 27,1–28,15.
La terza parte è dedicata allo studio di testi che rientrano nell’area culturale
semitica o che hanno potuto risentire dell’influenza letteraria biblica. Esordisce
Gérard Joyau con lo studio dell’intero capitolo 4 della Regola di San Benedetto.
Nicolas Leroux presenta i risultati dell’applicazione della retorica semitica e lo
studio del parallelismus membrorum nelle iscrizioni del Tempio di Horus presso
Edfu, in Egitto: si tratta di iscrizioni contenenti le raccomandazioni alla classe
sacerdotale che ivi svolgeva il proprio servizio cultuale. Chiude ancora questa
parte l’articolo di Giuliano Lancioni e Raoul Villano: uno studio sulle forme di
binarietà (o coppie coraniche) e sull’auto-similarità quali criteri di lettura e di
organizzazione del Corano.
L’ultima parte contiene due articoli di indole prettamente metodologica.
Michel Cuypers si inoltra nello studio serrato dei principali indizi di composi-
zione del Corano, caratteristici di tutti i suoi livelli di strutturazione letteraria.
Infine, Roland Meynet racconta la scoperta e analizza le caratteristiche di una
nuova figura di composizione, attestata con molti esempi tratti dall’uno e dall’al-
tro Testamento: si tratta della composizione «a due fuochi» o «centri», all’inter-
no della quale due unità letterarie articolano, come due centri compositivi, le
altre unità che esse stesse rilegano.

el amor que nos hace hermanos
Itinerario exegético del P. Jacek Oniszczuk SJ
en los escritos joánicos

1. INTRODUCCIÓN Y PLANTEAMIENTO

Se me ha pedido presentar brevemente, y obviamente de manera necesaria-

mente global, el itinerario exegético del p. Jacek Oniszczuk a través de los
escritos joánicos, de la mano de la Retórica Bíblica y Semítica. Véase que dicho
itinerario tiene esta doble acotación, un campo específico de la literatura bíblica,
y un método analítico concreto como lo es la Retórica Bíblica Semítica. Por esto
quisiera utilizar uno de los principios de este mismo Análisis como punto de
partida de mi presentación del itinerario exegético del p. Jacek en dos de sus
obras.
Afirma el p. Meynet en varios de sus libros y publicaciones: «los únicos
límites evidentes de un texto, son su inicio y su final; a partir de ahí, inicia el
trabajo de la delimitación…». Una vida, como todo texto, tiene su inicio y su
final, y es la existencia de estos «límites naturales» — tanto en la vida como en
el texto — lo que permite el análisis del interior; es decir, de todo aquello que se
encuentra entre estos dos puntos. Y particularmente del camino que lleva a la
conclusión de un relato, como lo es el EvJn, y toda vida humana.
Me propongo ahora comentar el itinerario el p. Jacek a partir de los extremos
de su labor exegética. Primero, desde de su obra seminal: La prima lettera di
Giovanni. La giustizia dei figli; ésta, su tesis doctoral, marca el inicio formal de
su itinerario en los estudios joánicos. Este comentario no lo haré directamente, o
aisladamente (tomando una obra específica como algo separado de toda su
investigación bíblica), sino un poco a la manera de proceder de la Retórica
Bíblica. Me explico.
En el otro extremo del itinerario del p. Jacek se encuentra su obra póstuma
sobre Jn 11–12: «Se il chicco di grano caduto in terra non muore…», estos
textos son los «términos extremos» de su trabajo dentro de la Retórica Bíblica, y
siguiendo las reglas hermenéuticas cabe preguntarse: ¿existe alguna semejanza,
existe alguna diferencia entre su obra inicial y la póstuma?, ¿puede percibirse
algún «hilo conductor» (il filo rosso)?
Alguien se preguntará por qué presentar las cosas de esta manera, si acaso es
una simple ocurrencia personal. No es así, pues además que metodológicamente

es coherente analizar la primera obra de un autor, con alguna más tardía, pienso
que existe una justificación en las líneas de conclusión que el p. Jacek dejó en su
obra póstuma; dichas líneas — con las cuáles él planeaba redactar la conclusión
del libro sobre Jn 11–12 — presentan una admirable coherencia, dentro de las
evidentes diferencias1, con los resultados y conclusiones de su obra seminal once
años antes (La giustizia dei figli), se diría en retórica bíblica que los contenidos
fundamentales de ambas obras funcionan como términos extremos de su itinera-
rio. Y que estos extremos nos revelan algo del «corazón» (centro) de sus conclu-
siones dentro de la obra joánica.
Cabe precisar que esta admirable coherencia no es creación del p. Jacek, sino
que es una coherencia teológica y literaria que recorre los escritos joánicos, y
que ha sido su trabajo exegético con las herramientas de la retórica bíblica el que
ha permitido ponerla en evidencia. Se verá que no es solo cuestión de un men-
saje o contenido común, sino también de un diseño literario.
¿A qué me refiero con la «admirable coherencia»? Esto lo veremos a partir de
las líneas conclusivas que trazó para su ultima obra.

2. LAS LÍNEAS CONCLUSIVAS DE SU ÚLTIMA OBRA (JN 11–12)

Al llegar al final del libro sobre Jn 11–12 el p. Jacek dejó esbozado como
deseaba redactar la conclusión; el p. Meynet, al final del libro, nos reporta la
siguiente transcripción:

Después de las cuestiones de rigor que deben aparecer al final de toda obra —
como presentar el recorrido, hacer una valoración de la hipótesis inicial o brindar
una noción del sentido global del objeto de estudio — el p. Jacek presenta una
serie de postulados que son para él las líneas conclusivas fundamentales del
