Yieljae Shin, Yi Qiang Th'23, and Dongyeol (Shin) Jang—from Professor Hui Fang's Multifunctional Integrated NeuroElectronics (MINE) Lab at Dartmouth—are lead authors on a study demonstrating a method to achieve 3D neural probe interfacing, solving the long-running "dimensional mismatch" between typical 2D probes and the brain's 3D neural circuits. The research—supported in part by The National Institutes of Health BRAIN Initiative and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)—resulted in a unique "rolling-of-soft-electronics" (ROSE) approach to create 3D neural probes that offer both high scalability and unprecedented design flexibility. A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research will invest about $500 million to establish a new National Semiconductor Translation and Innovation Centre (NSTIC) R&D fabrication facility (R&D Fab) at JTC nanoSpace @ Tampines. NSTIC (R&D Fab)’s facilities and expertise can be used by smaller companies, which may find substantial upfront investments out of reach. The NSTIC (R&D Fab) will house 12-inch (300mm) industry-grade tools that can enable faster production and cost savings, and will be used as a shared infrastructure resource, complemented by fab operations and research expertise. NSTIC (R&D Fab) will be a #collaborative hub where public and private sector players, and IHLs, share access to state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities, tools, and fabrication operations, providing the opportunity to bridge the gap for lab-to-fab #semiconductor R&D translation. The national facility is designed to drive advanced semiconductor research and #innovation, with an initial focus on advanced packaging technologies. “The NSTIC (R&D Fab) will scale up our capacity to enable similar #SMEs and the broader semiconductor industry here to build new capabilities, develop and commercialise globally competitive technologies, and create high value jobs in Singapore,” said DPM Gan Kim Yong. Commencing operations in 2027, it aims to strengthen the local semiconductor #ecosystem and bring technologies closer to market-ready solutions. 【CLP to Host Free Electrons in Hong Kong】 Free Electrons, the world’s leading accelerator programme for energy innovation, is making a welcome return to Hong Kong. From 7 – 10 July, CLP will host the Master Module of Free Electrons 2025 at our new Kai Tak Headquarters. This event will provide a forum for the Top 15 start-ups in this year’s programme to work closely with CLP and our utility partners to accelerate innovation in the energy sector. As part of the Master Module, the Hong Kong Innovation Immersion Session will be held on 10 July to discuss the latest developments in technologies and foster collaboration in Hong Kong’s innovation ecosystem. Participants will hear from an exciting lineup of speakers from HKSTP - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Invest Hong Kong, CUHK Innovation Limited and CLP. Pix Force, a Free Electrons start-up alumnus from Brazil, will also share insights on its technology and partnership with CLP. CLP previously hosted Free Electrons in Hong Kong in 2019.
