A $100 million reverse acqui-hire

By Vasudev Ram

He he, good one on WIRED:

"So being able to attract talent was an impetus for selling to Dropbox?"

From:

Meet the Man Who Sold a Month-Old App to Dropbox for $100M

Seems sort of like an acqui-hire in reverse ...

LaDiDa, a "reverse karaoke" AI music app from Khush

Smule to acquire friendly competitor Khush - Silicon Valley Business Journal

Khush makes LaDiDa. Interesting concept for a computer music app. It works on iPhone and generates music to match what you sing.

Khush was a 500 Startups startup. LaDiDa was "the top free music app on iTunes after it launched."

Khu.sh apps may have 50 million users. according to an article I read on the Net.

Peterpings, SaaS app to tell many tech blogs about your app

iPhone App Marketing. Notify Over 150 Tech Blogs About Your New App - Peterpings

Interesting idea.

Seen via Hacker News.

HN thread about it has many positive comments:

http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4992585

Seems to be only for iPhone apps, though.

It should be possible to make such an app for other platforms like desktop, web and other mobile platforms like Android.

Notikum finds credit card offers for you

By Vasudev Ram

Notikum

About Notikum

Excerpts (experimenting with a new format, for fun):

[ Notikum - location based app - find offers available on your credit cards - iPhone/Android apps - website - browse offers near you - offers by category - will fetch those - show nearest first - offers by card or location.

Founders - experience with multiple startups - degrees in computer science, data mining, finance - well funded by Singapore based angels. ]

Also, they use Python and have a position open (in Bangalore?).

Mobiquity, enterprise-class mobile apps

http://www.sramanamitra.com/2012/02/27/thought-leaders-in-mobile-and-social-bill-seibel-founder-and-ceo-of-mobiquity-part-1/

An interesting six-part article. Mobiquty seems to have put a lot of thought (not just effort) into their approach to designing and building mobile (plus back-end) apps for enterprises, and it seems to be paying off.

Mobiquity company site:

The site is structured as a blog with an RSS feed.

Using Google Analytics to filter for visitors on mobiles

By Vasudev Ram - www.dancingbison.com

As a side effect of commenting on this post by "A VC" Fred Wilson:

Mobile Reading Trends At AVC

http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2011/05/mobile-reading-trends-at-avc.html

, I figured out how to use Google Analytics (GA) to filter for mobile devices, i.e. filter for visitors to your Analytics-enabled site who are coming to it from a mobile device (such as an Android, iPhone or iPad):

Go to left pane of GA -> Visitors -> Mobile -> Mobile Devices

That's it. It will show you statistics on mobile device-using visitors, with the break up by type of device such as Android, iPhone, etc.

Can be useful ...
