👇🏾 African Women in FinTech & Payments (AWFP) AFRICA FINTECH FORUM Dr Anino Emuwa Martha Murgueitio Darren Franks Danielle du Toit #WomenInFintech #LeadershipFéminin #FintechAfrica #Payments #DigitalFinance #AfricaWomenInFintech
👇🏾 #AfricaTech #Fintech #DigitalAfrica #WomeninTech

When we talk about empowering women, the conversation often revolves around breaking barriers in the workplace; conversations around equal pay, leadership roles, and fighting against discrimination. Tell us, what about the hate, control, and emotional warfare some women endure outside of work? The BBC recently highlighted the insidious ways misogyny infiltrates personal spaces, not just boardrooms. Too often, the same resilience that women use to navigate workplace bias is required just to survive in their own homes. Gaslighting, coercion, and emotional isolation aren’t just personal struggles but societal issues that erode confidence, ambition, and self-worth. To truly #empower women, we must expand the conversation beyond professional spaces. Feel free to read the article in the comments and give your two-cents on online abuse against women.

Female founders’ uphill battle to secure venture capital has only grown steeper with time. Despite well-intentioned initiatives aimed at boosting investor readiness - sometimes leading to complaints of over-mentorship - funding disparities have worsened. In 2024, women-founded startups in Africa received just 1% of total VC funding in Africa, marking a five-year low. #funding #startup #women https://lnkd.in/dtvZ6w3s

We are delighted to officially welcome Symone Davids as one of our new Directors of the African Women in FinTech & Payments (AWFP) Network in South Africa. Symone has been a passionate advocate for female empowerment, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to increasing female representation in financial teams across Africa. In both her current role and previous positions, she has consistently worked to break barriers and create opportunities for women in the financial sector. As a woman of colour, Symone understands first-hand the challenges of navigating institutional red tape and overcoming gender stereotypes in the workplace. She brings a deep awareness of the unique struggles women face - balancing professional growth with personal milestones such as starting a family, managing the impact of PMS and PCOS while leading meetings, and handling the pressures that come with striving for excellence in male-dominated environments. With her experience and dedication, Symone is well-positioned to drive the #AWFP Network’s mission forward, actively challenging gender discrimination and fostering an inclusive, equitable financial industry for women in South Africa and beyond. Please join us in welcoming Symone to the AWFP South African leadership team!
