Detecting an emerging disinfection by-product in drinking water 🚰 Ensuring that public water systems provide clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental element of safeguarding health. To prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, water supplies are treated with disinfectants such as chlorine, which can produce chemical by-products that may be harmful at certain concentrations. Among these by-products is chloronitramide anion, which was identified in drinking water for the first time in late 2024. Within two months of this discovery, Eurofins Environment Testing Eaton Analytical developed a cutting-edge testing method to detect chloronitramide anion, leveraging state-of-the-art technology for enhanced accuracy and providing ultra-sensitive detection down to 0.1 µg/L. This innovative method provides water utilities with important data on chloronitramide anion contamination and provides scientists with an important foundation for continued research. 🔗 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eAsWAMy5

Today is #InternationalCakeDay 🎂 Cake is synonymous with confectionery; a staple of the bakery world that can be traced back to ancient Egypt. While the earliest recorded evidence of cake-making dates back to before 2,000 years BCE, the modern cake as we know it today has evolved significantly in the four millennia since it was first conceptualised. Naturally, cake has borne many names over its 4,000-year history. Take our quiz to see if you can spot the odd one out!

🔬 Ever wondered how you stay ahead of scientific challenges? Jonathan Thorn, Technical Director and PFAS Practice Leader from the Eurofins Environment Testing network in the United States, shares his experience working at the forefront of a rapidly evolving field. With over 30 years in the environmental analytical chemistry field, Jonathan has seen evolving trends up close: “Things constantly change – methods, instrumentation, regulations and required reporting limits too. That’s why continuous learning and training are key because the more you know, the more skilled you become as a scientist.” In this context of an ever-evolving landscape, what’s key to him is staying dynamic and addressing challenges with focused determination: “You cannot stay complacent in how you are running analytical methods, you need to evolve, refine methods, look for new instrumentation, and evolve with the industry!” Above all, what’s clear is empowering his people and leading by example: “Together, we address scientific challenges and continue creating a safer, healthier planet. We never sacrifice quality over quantity when developing new methods to address this emerging challenge.” ⏩ Looking to join our PFAS experts as they address challenges that will define the industry for years to come? World Fisheries Day🎣 According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), fish accounts for approximately 17% of the global animal protein intake for the world’s population. For many people, particularly in developing and and low-income nations, fish is often the most affordable and accessible source of high-quality protein. Fish also provides a critical source of micronutrients such iodine, zinc, and vitamin D, which are often lacking in the diets of vulnerable populations. Beyond nutrition, fisheries are vital for the livelihoods of millions of people around the world.
