Last week, I completed the LoRaPWN training at hardwear.io - Hardware Security Conference and Training, Netherlands 2025. It was a solid deep dive into how LoRa is used in real-world systems, from industrial environments to drones, and how these wireless links can be analyzed, tested, and secured. The training was delivered by 📡 Sebastien Dudek, founder of PentHertz, and covered LoRa PHY, LoRaWAN security, Meshtastic networks, and ELRS communication, with plenty of hands-on SDR work. It provided me with a clearer and more practical understanding of how these technologies operate and where potential weaknesses may arise. I spent last week in Amsterdam getting my brain pleasantly fried at hardwear.io - Hardware Security Conference and Training Netherlands 2025 – three days of deep-dive training followed by two days of talks and hallway conversations. Training (3 days): Hands-on TrustZone & TEE Security with Marcel Busch - Three intense days packed with concepts, real-world scenarios and lots of “wait, can they really do that?” moments. - We worked through CTF-style Docker challenges that got progressively harder – step by step exploring different attack paths against TrustZone/TEE setups and how to harden them again. - Exactly the kind of training where you leave with a notebook full of ideas and a slightly melted brain. Conference (2 days): Talks that stuck with me: - “Watch Out! A Security Case Study of a COROS Sports Watch” – Moritz Abrell. Loved the mix of hardware hacking and a very real consumer device – great reminder how much attack surface we strap to our wrists. - “Of Boot Vectors and Double Glitches: Bypassing RP2350's Secure Boot” – Marius Muench & Thomas Roth. Fault injection, secure boot and timing tricks – super insightful look at where theory meets the messy details of real silicon. - “Hacking to the Gate(way): Take Over Samsung SmartThings with a Single API Call” – TingYu Chen. A very clean, elegant attack chain and a good case study on why “just an API call” is never just an API call. On top of that: lots of good conversations, familiar faces from the hardware/embedded security world, and many new ones. Huge thanks to the organisers (Antriksh Shah and Payatu) and crew for the smooth experience and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere around all the hardcore content.
