The Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) (OSRA) Bill was introduced for First Reading in Parliament today. The measures proposed under the Bill will strengthen online safety and protect Singaporeans from online harms, by empowering victims to seek timely relief and obtain redress. The introduction of the Bill follows a series of engagements with over 100 stakeholders from the industry, academia and community; and a public consultation conducted in 2024. The proposed measures will complement existing laws; broaden the spectrum of online harms covered; and contribute to a safer and more responsible online space. #OnlineSafety #DigitalSociety #OSRA #SmartNationSG

Online harms are a key concern in Singapore. MDDI’s latest surveys found that 4 in 5 Singapore residents encountered harmful online content in the past year, and 2 in 3 want stronger regulations to address such harms. The upcoming Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill will seek to establish a new Online Safety Commission by the first half of 2026, to provide timely help to victims and hold perpetrators accountable. MDDI continues to work with platforms and partners to enhance public education to help Singapore users stay safe online.
