Gemini Apps can interact with Google Workspace to provide more helpful responses to your prompts. For example, Gemini can help you:
- Find information from Gmail or summarize documents from Drive
- Add and show your tasks from Google Tasks
- Create and show your notes and lists in Google Keep
- Create, find, and edit your events in Google Calendar
Important: If you’re using Gemini Apps with a personal account, learn how to use connected apps in Gemini.
What you need

. If the app has been enabled by your Workspace administrator, Gemini Apps automatically use it.
Examples
- Find information
- What dates did Erik propose in the email about the team offsite?
- Summarize a document
- Find notes from the latest team meeting titled “Team Meeting June 2023” from my drive and summarize it to a short paragraph
- Simplify and organize information
- Find the doc from Ashley about the website clean-up project and summarize the proposal for me in 5 bullets
Why can’t I use an app
Mention the app you want to use in your prompt
For example, enter @
, select Google Drive, and use keywords from the content you want Gemini to reference in your prompt. For every new conversation, you need to explicitly ask the Gemini app to get something from the other app or service explicitly. You don’t need to do this for follow up questions.
One or more apps may not be enabled by your organization
For users with a work or school Google Account, access to apps must be enabled by your Workspace administrator.
If your prompt includes multiple actions that require separate apps or services, but one or more of the required services are not enabled, neither of the actions will be completed. For example, if you prompt Gemini to create an event on your calendar and a reminder for that event, and the Tasks app is not enabled, the event will not be added to your calendar and you will not get a reminder.

What Gemini can’t do with connected apps

- Access attachments, comments, or images in Docs or Gmail
- Access folders, presentations, spreadsheets, pictures, and videos in your Drive
- This includes any content that isn’t in a document or PDF

What happens if access to apps in Gemini is disabled
Important: If you’re using Gemini with a work or school account, apps can only be enabled or disabled by the account’s Google Workspace administrator.
If apps are disabled after you have started a chat using an app, you will still be able to view and continue the chat. Gemini Apps will only have continued access to the information that was needed to respond to the original prompt. Gemini Apps won’t be able to access any additional information from the other app or service unless apps are enabled again in Gemini.
