Use Dark theme in Google Tasks

To check tasks more easily in Google Tasks, you can change the background theme.

Turn on Dark theme for Tasks in Calendar

Important: When you turn on Dark theme in Calendar, it also applies to Tasks in Calendar and in the side panel.

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
    • Check if you're in Tasks in Calendar. If so, at the top, click Switch to Calendar .
  2. At the top right, click Settings menu and then Appearance.
  3. In the “Appearance” window, select Dark.
  4. To apply the changes, click Done.

Turn on Dark theme for Tasks in Gmail

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top right, click Settings .
  3. In the “Quick settings” menu, next to "Theme," click View all.
  4. In the theme window, select Dark.
  5. At the bottom right, click Save.
  6. Refresh your browser.

Tip: Certain themes allow you to personalize the background of specific Gmail elements, such as the Tasks side panel, separately from the overall Gmail background. This allows for combinations like a dark background for Tasks and a light background for your inbox. To change the text background:

  1. In the theme window, select a theme.
  2. In the bottom right of the theme window, click Text background .
    • If you don’t get this option, you can’t change the text background.
  3. Select Dark.
  4. Refresh your browser.
  5. On the right, click Tasks Tasks logo.
    • Your tasks in Gmail should now match the chosen background.
