WORKING WITH THE NEW CITY MINISTER TO SUPPORT GROWTH I was pleased to meet with new City Minister, Lucy Rigby KC MP, at the Treasury’s Trade Associations Advisory Group today. The discussion focused on the delivery of the Leeds reforms and the Financial Services Growth and Competitiveness Strategy. It was a productive meeting as I was able to cover a number of key BIBA points around progressing regulatory reform including: the Consumer Duty scope, simplifying SM&CR, the FOS reforms, speedier authorisations, and the need for a new Financial Services Bill to act as a vehicle to take these helpful reforms forward. Also pleased to flag other relevant growth areas like the importance of cyber insurance protection and the growth opportunities that it brings, and of course it was important to touch on IPT ahead of next weeks Budget. It was also good to put forward some positive ideas of supporting start up insurance brokers, like re-introducing the regulator’s ‘minded to authorise’ letters, helping a new broker to secure agency agreements and capital that much sooner. Good to have the other insurance bodies – the The ABI and London Market Group all pulling together too in such a positive forum. GT

1,090 Is a new record for BIBA regional tour registrations, and I am enormously grateful for everyone one that turned out, spoke/ presented, sponsored, exhibited, engaged, volunteered, and importantly suggested new manifesto issues at this years tour over eleven UK cities. The tour is such a vital way for us to ensure we are fully up to speed on member issues of all types and sizes. We have been joined by the regulator on every single leg this year and it has been great to see how these events help us feed directly into the FCA and aid their understanding of member issues - and then take subsequent actions like CP25/12. It was a pleasure to have Graeme Reynolds join us for the Q&A today and a huge thank you to Lisa Sturley for her engagement across the country over the last 77 days since we started in Duxford. Thank you to 'Head Teacher' David Sparkes and Panel chair 'Parky' Alastair Blundell.
