From semi-skilled to qualified tradesperson💡 With ECITB funding, semi-skilled workers in the north of England are being given a roadmap to evidence the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to become tradespeople in the engineering construction industry. Kieran Gellatly, who works for Cavendish Northern Limited, recently became the first person to gain an industry qualification after going through the Adult Learner Scheme and praised the impact it has had on his career. The International Assessment Centre (IAC) in Middlesbrough developed the scheme in response to demand from employers to help workers who have site experience but no formal trade qualification. Yesterday, our CEO, Andrew Hockey, joined the “Skills Without Borders” panel at the Green Skills & Energy Transition Conference. Alongside Doug Duguid from Aurora Energy Services,  Kenny Hay from Wood and Rosemary Gallagher from The Scotsman, the discussion focused on the future of green skills across industry and what is needed to build a truly integrated energy workforce. Andrew emphasised the need to move the conversation beyond “green skills” and “clean energy” and instead talking more broadly about “energy skills.” He pointed out that our latest Census found 71% of employers are struggling to fill roles, particularly electrical engineers, pipefitters, riggers, and design technicians. Yet around 90% of roles in low-carbon sectors don’t require entirely new skills. These skills enable mobility across employers, sectors, and geographies, helping to create a flexible, resilient and future-ready workforce for the energy transition. #GreenSkillsWeek #SustainableFuture #EnergyTransition #GreenJobs #CleanEnergy #FutureSkills #NetZero
