Enacuity showcased our live oxygenation demo @ the NVIDIA MedTech Meetup. We were invited to showcase our real-time oxygenation visualisation demo at the NVIDIA Healthcare Medtech Meetup– AI, robotics, and simulation in Ortho-Spine Neurosurgery at OR-X Universitätsklinik Balgrist in Zurich, Switzerland! 👀 About the demo: Real-time visualisation of tissue oxygenation is still an unmet need in surgery. Enacuity delivers a plug-and-play hyperspectral software solution that displays live, on-demand oxygenation changes, helping surgeons make informed decisions when it matters most. Built on the NVIDIA IGX platform, for easy deployment— simply connect and power on. 🙏 About the NVIDIA MedTech meet-up: Grateful to discover the latest innovations from NVIDIA’s R&D, connect and hear from leading partners driving advancements in the space and showcase our AI-driven, physics-grounded technology. ⁉️ What is next: Next stop: Barclays UK #DemoDirectory Demo Day in London on November 18th — more details coming soon. Oi EnAcuity Awarded Innovate UK Smart Grant for Groundbreaking Surgical Imaging Software! EnAcuity, a joint spin-out from Imperial College London and University College London (UCL), has been awarded a prestigious Innovate UK Smart Grant worth £300,840. This funding will support the development of the first-ever software-only surgical hyperspectral imaging solution in the UK. The EnAcuity-led consortium, which includes Imperial College London and University College London, achieved an impressive reviewer score of 90%, making it one of the top awardees among 1,392 applications. This innovative project aims to reduce complications in minimally invasive surgery by transforming standard surgical cameras into powerful hyperspectral imaging tools without the need for costly hardware upgrades. This technology will enable surgeons to see tissue perfusion and critical structures more clearly, helping to prevent unwanted injuries. Dr Maria Leiloglou, EnAcuity’s co-founder and CEO and an honorary research fellow at UCL Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering and at Imperial’s department of Surgery and Cancer, said: “This award comes at a pivotal moment, giving us the momentum we need to accelerate our product’s entry to the market. Receiving funding from Innovate UK is a strong public endorsement of the value of our technology and will help bring us a step closer to delivering a major technical boost that will help prevent surgical complications and improve practice, benefiting patients and surgeons alike”. With this grant, the consortium will validate EnAcuity's software using a unique library of surgical video data from laparoscopic procedures at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Weng Sie Wong, Senior Business Manager at UCL Business commented: "We are thrilled to see EnAcuity receive this significant recognition and support from Innovate UK. Their innovative approach to enhancing surgical imaging has the potential to transform laparoscopic surgery techniques and have a substantial impact on healthcare. Congratulations to the entire team for their hard work and dedication." Imperial College London is flush with founders, building on our #STEMB focus and empowered by our extraordinary entrepreneurial ecosystem. So what are our founders' key lessons when starting a company from academia? At a recent Imperial Founders Forum event, we found out: 1. It's a tough transition "The transition from academia and technical development to pitching to world leading healthcare organisations and investors was a big change," said Tobey Basey-Fisher, founder of Entia But "building valuable relationships builds confidence." 2. It's about people Business requires a different skillset from academic research. According to Maria Leiloglou , co-founder of EnAcuity "you should invest in your emotional intelligence." 3. You need to build the right culture Per Dr Angela de Manzanos Guinot, co-founder of FA Bio, fostering a positive culture and taking care of yourself is a must: "It's like elite athletics - you can't do it non-stop for decades, you have to take time off." 4. It can be a long road to reap rewards Alex Bond, CEO and co-founder of Fresh Check: Confirming Hygiene shared his perspective that founders need to be prepared for their highly innovative IP-driven startups to face a long and winding path to profitability. 5. You've got to look for the right place and the right time Dr Ruben Doyle, founder of Additive Instruments, a surgical device company used a mix of consultancy income and grants to develop his business while retaining equity - before selling to a major equipment manufacturer. "Because we knew what the customer wanted, it was easy to put our heads down, and there was a lot of right place, right time."
