  • We couldn’t be more delighted at Liz Kendall’s drive and determination to get more women in tech. This announcement is central to our objective and we cannot wait to continue working with The Labour Party Government to implement actual change 🎉🌹 If you would like to hear more about our upcoming work or would like to feed in, please do get in touch.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall has announced plans to establish a Diversity in Tech group, bringing together leading voices from across industry to provide expert guidance on major technology programmes and initiatives, helping to inform government policy. Prominent figures such as BT Group Chief Executive Allison Kirkby and Stemettes founder Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon have already committed their voice and support. By drawing on diverse external expertise, the Secretary of State aims to ensure that technology is not only developed by a more representative workforce but is also designed and built with all users in mind. This approach recognises that creating a truly inclusive tech sector requires input from those who understand the barriers and opportunities for underrepresented groups, unlocking the talent needed to drive innovation and economic growth, and ultimately leading to better outcomes for everyone.

  • 🎉Congratulations to Liz Kendall MP on her appointment as Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology. With 40,000-60,000 women leaving the UK tech sector every year according to the new Lovelace Report, having strong female leadership at the highest levels isn't just symbolic - it is essential. Liz brings valuable experience with a deep understanding of how education and skills can create opportunities, and we are excited for her to apply this to tech. ✨ Young women need to see leaders who look like them in positions of influence over tech policy 💡 Diverse leadership drives better innovation and outcomes 🚀 DSIT oversees crucial programmes that can help bridge the gender gap in STEM Prime Minister Keir Starmer is building a government that recognises the valuable role of women in tech. #WomenInTech #LabourValues #DiversityInSTEM #TechLeadership

  • Today we honour a pioneer: Dame Stephanie Shirley We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dame Stephanie “Steve” Shirley CH, aged 91 - a true trailblazer who transformed what it means to be a woman in technology. 🚀 Having founded Freelance Programmers in 1962, creating opportunities for women with dependants and predominantly employing women, Dame Stephanie pioneered flexible working decades before it became mainstream. 💻 With that, her company's workers programmed the black box flight recorder for Concorde with their work beginning on some of the earliest computers. Dame Stephanie built a multi-billion pound software empire while championing women in STEM at every turn. Dame Stephanie once said her goal was to live "a life worth saving" - and she achieved that magnificently. Now it's our collective responsibility to ensure her vision of equal opportunities in STEM becomes reality. Her light may have dimmed, but her legacy lights up the path forward. #WomenInSTEM #DameStephanieShirley #WomenInTech
