About us

Save the Children Save the Children is the world's leading independent organisation for children. We work in around 120 countries. Our vision is to live in a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Last year Save the Children's programmes and campaigns reached more than 55 million children directly around the world, through our and our partners' work. We work to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. Across all of our work, we pursue several core values: accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity and integrity.

  • Sudan is one of the world’s largest humanitarian emergencies and one of the gravest crises for children’s rights. Every day the fighting continues, another generation of children remains shut out of school. Yet amidst all this, there are stories of children who refuse to let go of hope. Vishna Shah-Little, Director for Child Rights Advocacy and Campaign at Save the Children International, met some of these children during her recent visit to Sudan. • 2025 has been one of the hardest years in recent memory for children.  Wars have torn families apart. Climate disasters have destroyed entire communities. Crippling hunger and disease have stolen childhoods. And millions of mothers and babies have been caught in the chaos. Yet even in the chaos of war, disaster and hunger, life finds a way. Every baby deserves more than survival. Learn more about this crisis and what we are doing to keep mothers and babies healthy👉 https://bit.ly/4oBgb5P

  • The world is witnessing the deliberate destruction of childhood - and the evidence is undeniable. Our latest report shows that in 2024, nearly 12,000 children were killed or injured in conflict, the highest toll ever, mostly due to explosive weapons. A blast injury in a growing child is not a one-time wound, but a lifelong medical challenge, making recovery longer, more complex, and far more costly than for adults. Government forces were the main perpetrators or killing and maiming of children. If we accept this as normal, we are accepting a world where childhood itself is under attack. 🗣️We are calling on world leaders to: ❗Stop the use of explosive weapons in populated areas. ❗Enforce stronger political and military policies to protect children in conflict. ❗Invest in victim assistance, research, and rehabilitation for children affected by blast injuries. • ‘Education is not a luxury. It is life-saving.’ 💬 As global aid shrinks, children and their caregivers have a loud and clear message: education must remain a priority, not a footnote, in humanitarian funding. As the world grapples with tough choices, we must ask: Is our goal simply to for people to survive, or to give them a chance to live with dignity? We know there is no single solution, but we offer one practical action: Centre humanitarian response for children around educational spaces. 👇Read the full article to understand what’s at stake if education in emergencies is removed.

  • Did you know that nearly all or 95% of maternal deaths occur in low and middle-income countries? 🚨A woman dies from complications during pregnancy and childbirth every two minutes. 🚨Every 36 seconds a baby is stillborn. Mothers have given birth without electricity, clean water or medicine - often while fleeing violence or rebuilding after a climate disaster. Pregnant women have suffered from malnutrition. We know that the first moments of life shape everything. And we know that with the right care and support, a majority of newborn and maternal deaths are preventable. Every day, our maternity units and mobile clinics around the world are saving lives. Donate today to help mothers give birth safely in crisis zones👉 https://bit.ly/4hWeX2R

  • Recent media reports of violations of the conditional and temporary ceasefire in Lebanon alongside new attacks in Gaza are extremely alarming. Israeli forces' airstrikes must stop immediately - we must not allow the hope of a definitive ceasefire to go up in smoke. A definitive ceasefire remains the only way to ensure that children are provided with the protection, and fulfilment of the rights that they are entitled to. The humanitarian situation remains desperate in Gaza. ➡️ We need immediate, unimpeded, safe, and sustained aid access. As winter hits, children are at high risk of malnutrition and illnesses like diarrhoea and pneumonia. 🗣️ We cannot go backwards. The bombs and bullets must stop alongside full aid access.

  • When storms in Northern Kenya destroyed the fishing nets that baby Lucy's family rely on, their income vanished. Now food is scarce, and some days the family eats only once. The lack of nutrition has severely affected Lucy’s health. She is malnourished and has also battled malaria and pneumonia. ➡️ In Sub-Saharan Africa, Pneumonia and Malaria account for 36% of deaths in children aged between 1 and 59 months. The majority of these deaths are preventable. With the right care and support, many of these lives could be saved. Lucy is now receiving lifesaving treatment from a Save the Children Emergency Health Unit outreach clinic. This care is helping her recover and grow stronger. This #WorldChildrensDay, let's remember that every baby deserves a safe start.

  • Nearly every child alive now faces at least one climate shock a year. Children born today will face 6.8x more heatwaves, 2.8x more crop failures, 2.6x more droughts, and 2.8x more floods in their lifetime compared to those born in 1960. 🗣️ At #COP30, this is what needs to happen: 🔴 Recognise children as a priority group in climate negotiations, policies, and finance. 🔴 Guarantee the meaningful participation of children in decision-making. 🔴 Phase out fossil fuels urgently and equitably, in line with the 1.5°C goal. 🔴 Invest in climate-resilient services – including health, education, water, nutrition, and child protection. 🔴 Increase research and address the data gaps to reveal the true impacts of climate change on children. The impacts of climate change on children are lifelong, irreversible, and deeply unjust. Children can't wait any longer for climate action.
