  • Sumitomo Corporation is proud to support the pilot ITMO transfer between Norway and Switzerland under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. ClimeFi is proud to share that it has structured the first-ever durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) ITMO transfer under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. In a pilot project led by the Federal Office for the Environment FOEN, ClimeFi structured a first-of-its-kind, government-backed transfer of #ITMOs achieved from CDR in Norway, sourced from Inherit, under permanent geological storage to a Swiss buyer coalition made up of Swiss International Air Lines, Swiss Post, Swiss Re, UBS, and Zürcher Kantonalbank. This public-private partnership, coordinated by ClimeFi, marks a significant advancement in the deployment and implementation of regulatory infrastructure for cross-border CDR and carbon capture and storage (CCS) transfers. As CDR markets further converge with compliance markets, governments and private sector companies will increasingly rely on ITMO interexchanges to counterbalance their residual emissions. ClimeFi aims to remain at the forefront of these interexchanges, playing a central role as the market develops. Thank you to the team at the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment for your continued collaboration and to all of the companies who helped make this trailblazing initiative a reality. 🌊 First Offshore Wind Turbine Installed at the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier in France🌊   As part of our strategic commitment to advancing renewable energy for a sustainable future, we are excited to share that the first offshore wind turbines at the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier wind farm have been successfully installed on May 9, marking another significant key milestone for the project, bringing us closer to commissioning at the end of 2025. The Noirmoutier wind farm will provide renewable energy to the French grid, meeting the annual electricity demand of around 800,000 people.   The Noirmoutier Wind Farm Project Overview: 💡 Location: off the Vendée coast of France 💡 Total capacity: around 500 MW, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 800,000 people. 💡 Total project cost: around EUR 2.5 billion 💡 Commercial operation date: the end of 2025 💡 Project period: 25 years from the completion of construction   Construction highlights: ⚙️The project deploys 61 wind turbines manufactured by Siemens Gamesa. ⚙️ Installation of the wind turbines will continue with Jan De Nul Group’s jack-up vessel, Vole au Vent, picking up components from the port of Saint-Nazaire. ⚙️Alongside the installation of wind turbines, test runs will commence to generate electricity. ⚙️ The world’s first rock drilling technology using MODIGA tool, owned by the installation contractor DEME Group, was used for Monopile installation, forming the foundations of the wind turbines.   Our renewable energy activities are progressing smoothly, and all these achievements are a testimony to the skills and experience of Sumitomo Corporation. We would like to use this occasion to extend a big thank you to the entire team, our partners OW Ocean Winds, Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations and Vendée Energie, and all involved for the dedication so far and wish them all the best for completing the project within this year.   With the commencement of commercial operations, Sumitomo Corporation will promote the growth of renewable energy development and contribute to a sustainable future and the promotion of carbon neutrality.
