Celebrate the Past, Fund the Future

Today, computer science underpins nearly everything in our lives. SCS played a huge role in sparking this sea change. But while we celebrate our history, we’re focused on what’s ahead. Our students, faculty and alumni are developing the technologies that will change how the next generation lives and works. Your dedication to SCS funds our community, our research, our future.

The RIC offers researchers new opportunities to develop and test robotics, automation and physical AI in the real world, whether on land, in the water, through the air or into the deep reaches of outer space. SCS researchers are tackling challenges ranging from agriculture and manufacturing to search and rescue and exploration in the center’s drone flight cage, running yard, water tank, high bay and advanced labs.

Science, technology, art and creativity will converge in this next-generation home for collaboration, opening in 2027. Anchoring Forbes Avenue and Craig Street, the RKM Hall of Sciences will house our Machine Learning Department, Language Technologies Institute, and the Ray and Stephanie Lane Computational Biology Department alongside colleagues from Mellon College of Science and the Institute for Contemporary Art Pittsburgh.

Establish Your Own Named Fund

The Carol Karnell Lampe Endowed Robotics Research Fund, for example, supports work that continues the exploration for potable drinking water on earth, the moon and beyond. Lampe (MM 1967) established this fund in 2022 in honor of her parents and as encouragement to her lineal generations to seek higher education.
