From the Texas/New Mexico State Line at Texline via Dalhart, Dumas, Amarillo, Canyon, Tulia, Plainview, Lubbock, Tahoka, Lamesa, Big Spring, Sterling City, San Angelo, Eden, Brady, Mason, Fredericksburg, Boerne, San Antonio, Stockdale, Cuero, and Victoria to Port Lavaca. (Dallam, Hartley, Moore, Potter, Randall, Swisher, Hale, Lubbock, Lynn, Dawson, Martin, Howard, Glasscock, Sterling, Tom Green, Concho, McCulloch, Mason, Gillespie, Kendall, Bexar, Wilson, Gonzales, DeWitt, Victoria, and Calhoun Counties).  A segment of US 87 was designated concurrently with IH 20 from the existing intersection of US 87 and IH 20 north of Big Spring westward to the intersection of US 87's new location west of Big Spring, a distance of approximately 4.3 miles.

In and near the city of Big Spring, a segment of US 87 was designated on the state highway system along a new location from I-20 northward and eastward to existing US 87 approximately 0.5 mile north of FM 700, a total distance of approximately 6.8 milesa. Additionally, a segment of US 87 was redesignated on the state highway system as BU 87-M from I-20 northward to approximately 0.5 mile north of FM 700, a total distance of approximately 2.5 milesb. Additionally, a segment of US 87 was removed from the state highway system along a concurrency with I-20 from the intersection of existing US 87 and I-20, westward and southwestward to the intersection of new US 87 and I-20, a distance of approximately 4.3 milesc.
