Introduction
Babies come into our hearts in so many ways. Some babies are prayed for, searched for and found in far away countries. Some babies are longed for and waited for, and then the middle of the night two blessing arrive-a baby and an older sibling. Some babies are expected, protected, dreamed of and arrive in a blurry of pain paired with the serenest peace. Some babies are a big surprise. They further force our trust in God’s timing and not our own. When they arrive into the world we are overcome with humbleness with our hands raised high praising God for choosing me
to carry his precious creation. No matter how a baby ends up in your arms, from the moment they are placed there, your life will never be the same. Babies and kids change us for better or worse.
By day two in the hospital, I remember thinking I got this
. I just want to get this sweet little person, who has stolen my heart, home. By day four once at home, I had my mom on speed-dial for assistance with a thousand questions which inevitably seemed to pop up most frequently during the wee hours of the night. It’s funny how a lack of sleep and a fussy baby can make even the most knowledgeable person freak-out a little bit over the fact that they must be doing something wrong, because she or he just keeps crying. Rest assured, every mom, and dad for that matter, have experienced those thoughts at one time or another during a baby’s infancy.
My hope is that this book will help to lessen these panic moments
. My hope is that this book will be a guide. To the best of my knowledge as a Pediatric Speech & Feeding Therapist the advice in this book is based on current research and advice gathered from professionals and personal experience. As with everything in the parenting world, read it, know it, use it and understand that you ultimately know your baby best and you should always trust your mommy gut
.
Enjoy!

Breastfeeding tidbits for newborns:
It is recommended that if you are a nursing mom that you start to store up your milk ASAP. The best time to express milk through pumping (highly recommend the Medela Pump in Style- double pump) is in the morning following the first nursing of the day. For example, if your little one wakes up at five in the morning for his or her first feeding, then you should pump for fifteen minutes immediately following that nursing session.
Make sure that you are switching sides when nursing
