Chapter One.

LIFE WITHOUT KETCHUP

Most of us cannot imagine a world without ketchup. This strange red substance is the lifeblood of fast food everywhere. Nothing that taste good cannot be helped by ketchup and because of this simple truth there are a number of things that can be cooked with it.

I thought that the only time that I would not see a bottle of the stuff was during Thanksgiving dinner and then this year my little girl demanded that some of it be put on her turkey. Think of it ketchup on that perfect slice of turkey that I spent seven hours carefully basting with butter and delicious turkey juice. (Okay fine, I know that turkey juice is not the official name of it, but it is not gravy and drippings sounds wrong somehow.) Anyway that little girl put ketchup on the turkey and I would have made her walk all the way back to grandma’s house if we weren’t already there.

This story is not helping me to sell the ketchup cookbook is it?

Back to the point of this chapter, I am hear to tell you about ketchup and how it can help you to make awesome meals. I am going to do this with recipes. Recipes are these magical things that we in the cooking world use to create meals. We may cook these meals in a ancient device called an oven or even on top of this magical kitchen appliance using the burners. We may even use a microwave (I have a best selling book on microwave cooking - just thought I would mention it).

You will find thirty recipes in this book instead of the hundreds that are published in many other books. The reason why I refuse to included more than fifty recipes in any cookbook is that you do not need a ton of recipes once you got the basics down. Also, like many things in life, the important stuff can be covered in five minutes instead of a state of the union address. I try my best to condense it down to the go to recipes rather than a bunch of recipes that hopefully will
