CHAPTER ONE: The Overview

THE HORIZON is the horizontal line across the middle of the chart.

THE MERIDIAN is the vertical line through the middle of the chart.

THE HOUSES are the twelve divisions of the chart or circle. They represent the areas of life experience, and are usually numbered at the center of the wheel. The lines dividing each house are called house cusps. Houses are numbered counter-clockwise starting at the 1st house, which begins on the ascendant.

THE MIDHEAVEN, or noon point. It is said by some that this point represents the spiritual qualities of the soul coming into incarnation, and therefore those energies that need to be bent to the purpose of the Sun. Here your soul energies come into your life and are expressed in the world where all can see. This quadrant (10th, 11th and 12th houses) is the area of logical thinking and here you may establish yourself as a rational being.

The signs of the zodiac represent attitudes and needs. Where they are placed in relation to the houses show your individual attitudes and needs in each of the houses (areas of life.) The signs are marked around the outside of the wheel at the intersections of the house divisions, and their influences operate counter-clockwise.

Everyone has all twelve signs somewhere in their horoscope and are demonstrating the needs and attitudes of all signs—all the time.
