How to learn Spanish fast with these audio lessons

Welcome to my Spanish audio lessons.

I'm Maria Fernandez, a Spanish native teacher and the author of the lessons in this audiobook.

I'll be your host throughout these lessons. In each lesson you’ll get a dialogue, vocabulary audio flashcards, grammar drills, pronunciation practice, role playing exercises, number practice, and quizzes.

The best way to go through this audiobook is by listening to the lessons from beginning to end, in the order that I present them to you. Ideally you should listen to each lesson at least twice.

When doing the exercises and drills, if possible, make sure you say the Spanish words and sentences out loud, as if you were talking to me, rather than saying them quietly or in your head. That way you'll develop your speaking skills faster.

To develop your listening skills at a good rate, make sure you listen to each new lesson in full before reading its transcript.

Throughout these audio lessons I'll give you my best tips on how to learn Spanish fast, and how to enjoy studying and stay motivated.

I hope you enjoy learning Spanish with me.

Remember that you can find the links to the ebook transcript on my website, kerapido.com

At kerapido.com you can also find all my other Spanish books, audiobooks and free podcast, as well as my interactive Spanish online course.

    Lesson 1

    ––––––––

In this lesson we're going to hear a dialogue with greetings, we're going to practise the new words with the audio flashcards, we're going to learn some essential grammar terms, and finally we're going to practise saying the letter 'a'.

    ––––––––

    DIALOGUE

We're going to hear this lesson's dialogue twice:

María: Buenos días, Ana, ¿qué tal estás?

    Ana: Bien, gracias, ¿y tú?

    María: Bien.

    ––––––––

And here is the dialogue with its translation:

María: Buenos días, Ana, ¿qué tal estás?

Mary: Good morning, Anne, how are you?

    Ana: Bien, gracias, ¿y tú?

    Anne: Fine, thanks, and you?

    María: Bien.

    Mary: Fine.

    ––––––––

    VOCABULARY AUDIO FLASHCARDS

Now we're going to hear the new words that came up in the dialogue together with their translation:

    buenos días

    good morning

    ¿qué tal estás?

    how are you?

    estás

    you are

    bien

    fine, well

    gracias

    thank you, thanks

    y

    and

    you

Let's now practise saying those new words. I'll give you five of them in English. Can you say them to me in Spanish:

    thank you

    gracias

    good morning

    buenos días

    how are you?

    ¿qué tal estás?

    you are

    estás

    fine

    bien

    ––––––––

Now that we're familiar with the new words, let's hear the dialogue once more. Can you repeat each line after the native speakers?

María: Buenos días, Ana, ¿qué tal estás?

    Ana: Bien, gracias, ¿y tú?

    María: Bien.

    ––––––––

    SPANISH GRAMMAR

In this lesson we're going to learn 10 essential grammar terms.

    ––––––––

    Adjective

Adjectives are words used to describe or modify nouns and pronouns.

For example in the sentence: The black cat is on the sofa, the word 'black' is an adjective.

    ––––––––

    Adverb

Adverbs are words  that modify a verb, an adjective or another adverb. Adverbs give information on when, where and how.

For instance: Peter speaks slowly. The word 'slowly' tells us how Peter speaks, therefore it's an adverb.

    ––––––––

    Gender

All Spanish nouns have gender. They are either masculine or feminine. Apart from nouns, other Spanish words with gender are: articles, adjectives and pronouns.

For example: La amiga es americana, here the words 'la', 'amiga' and 'americana' are all feminine.

    ––––––––

    Noun

Nouns are words used to name persons, objects, places, qualities and abstract concepts.

For instance: father, train, theatre, freedom, etc.

    ––––––––

    Plural

Words are in the plural when they refer to more than one person, animal or object.

For example: fathers, trains, theatres, etc.

    ––––––––

    Preposition

Prepositions are words that are usually followed by a noun or pronoun, and indicate time, place, possession, direction, etc.

For instance:  I saw him at the station. The word 'at' is a preposition and it indicates place.

    ––––––––

    Pronoun

Pronouns are words that refer to persons and objects that have been mentioned before.

For example:  Benjamin is great. He is such a nice guy. 'He' is a pronoun, and it refers to 'Benjamin', who has been mentioned previously.

    ––––––––

    Singular

Words are in the singular when they refer to only one person or object.

For example: father, train, theatre, etc.

    ––––––––

    Tense

Verb tenses indicate whether actions occur in the past, present or future.

For example:  Yesterday we went for a walk. The word 'went' is a verb in the past tense.

    ––––––––

    Verb

Verbs are words that denote action, state of being or occurrence.

For instance:  George phoned me on Tuesday. The word 'phoned' is a verb.

    ––––––––

    SPANISH PRONUNCIATION

In this lesson we're going to practise saying the letter 'a'.

    Please repeat after me: a

That's how the letter 'a' sounds in Spanish. Always. Regardless of whether it comes at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of a word: a

Pronouncing the letter 'a' like in English can make it difficult for Spanish speakers to understand you.

Listen to these five Spanish words which look very similar in English but don't sound exactly the same:

    individual

    pasaporte

    radio

    mayonesa

    patata

Let's now practise saying these five words. Repeat them after me:

    individual

    pasaporte

    radio

    mayonesa

    patata

    ––––––––

And here are five words with the letter 'a' from this lesson's dialogue. Repeat after me:

    días

    Ana

    tal

    gracias

    estás

    ––––––––

Let's hear the dialogue one last time

María: Buenos días, Ana, ¿qué tal estás?

    Ana: Bien, gracias, ¿y tú?

    María: Bien.
