The author has spent thousands of hours working one on one in person with students to better understand the issues impacting their success and designing strategies to help them. What she found was that for her students with math troubles, their problems started young. They didn't learn the right skills early on and it affected almost all their learning afterwards along with their life choices. She now creates materials to help families investing in building those critical skills.

Kathy Stoughton, M.Ed., aka Auntie G, has spent thousands of hours working directly with students to understand the issues impacting their success and develop strategies to help them. (Many of her students now have careers they didn't think possible before working with her.) For most of her students with math troubles, the root of their problems started young. They didn't learn the right skills early and it affected almost everything afterwards including their life choices. Introduction
Math is one of the most important life skills for today’s world. The consequences of poor math skills are so sad - affecting success in school, cost of college or other education, career opportunities, money, quality of life and more.
And although much of the math learned in schools doesn’t seem to match what students see in the real world (or their individual goals,) almost all of the math learned can be applied to real world scenarios especially financial.
The sad reality of today’s world is that there are people and entities in the world that make their money exploiting other people’s lack of math skills. Those exploiters don’t want people to learn math. It would cost them money. The exploiters don’t care about their victims. They care about the money. And, many people without math skills end up helping the exploiters and not knowing it.
In today’s world, parents play the most important in helping their youngsters understand the importance of building the math skills they will need to prevent being exploited by uninformed, uncaring or nefarious people.
This text is not designed to be everything a parent needs to know or do. It helps parents, regardless of their comfort level with math, prevent some of the biggest troubles including overpaying for college or missing the opportunity to
