SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION TO DOCTORAL RESEARCH PROJECT

BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM & PROBLEM STATEMENT

The healthcare industry has experienced changes in recent years due to the widespread adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) and the implementation of E-Health systems. These technological advancements have the potential to revolutionize care, improve communication among healthcare providers, and enhance overall organizational efficiency. However, despite their benefits, there is a growing concern about how effective and impactful E-Health systems are in addressing the inability of Adult Medical Daycare in the State of New Jersey to institute aftercare follow-up for patients, resulting in missed opportunities for delivering more effective patient care.

Existing research literature has shed light on the importance of E-Health systems in enhancing care and streamlining healthcare processes. Studies conducted by Johnson et al. (2021) have shown outcomes linked to using E-Health systems, such as improved communication among healthcare providers and increased job satisfaction among nurses due to easily accessible healthcare records. Additionally, the gap in existing literature pertains to E-Health systems' deficient implementation and efficacy within specialized healthcare facilities like Adult Medical Daycare in New Jersey. This void underscores real-world obstacles that hinder system integration, yielding inefficiencies and suboptimal patient outcomes.

Like many healthcare institutions, Golden Years Care has introduced an E-Health system to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Yet, concerns about the system's impact on care quality and facility effectiveness have emerged, specifically regarding the inability to establish effective aftercare follow-up for patients in the State of New Jersey. Staff and patients have identified issues such as delays in accessing records, difficulties navigating the system, and occasional data entry errors. While existing literature mainly highlights the benefits of E-Health systems, there is a lack of studies specifically addressing the unique challenges faced during implementation and usage at individual healthcare facilities. To enhance patient care, it is vital to explore the effectiveness of the E-Health system within New Jersey's Adult Medical Daycare, focusing on aftercare follow-up barriers.

This study focuses on the Adult Medical Daycare in New Jersey's inability to establish patient aftercare follow-up, leading to missed opportunities for enhanced patient care.

Through a case study at Golden Years Care facility, this study aims to investigate staff experiences with the E-Health system, identifying factors influencing its efficiency and effectiveness within the facility. The study seeks to understand Golden Years Care's difficulties in effectively utilizing the E-Health system. Additionally, it aims to explore strategies for improving its functionality.

The importance of this study goes beyond filling a gap in the existing literature. It has implications for healthcare administrators and policymakers. Healthcare facilities can implement targeted interventions to optimize their systems and enhance organizational effectiveness by understanding the challenges and obstacles faced when using E-Health systems. The findings from this study will be a resource for healthcare organizations looking to fully leverage the potential of E-Health systems and streamline healthcare processes. Moreover, in a changing healthcare landscape, it is crucial to continuously assess and improve the implementation and usage of E-Health systems. The results of this study will contribute to the discussion about integrating digital technology into healthcare, leading the way for future research and advancements in this field.
