finews.asia Celebrates 10th Anniversary

What began as a modest start-up following the Swiss banks to Singapore has, ten years later, become one of Asia’s leading financial news platforms. This week, finews.asia marked its 10th Anniversary with an exclusive celebration at the iconic Raffles Hotel Singapore.

More than 100 guests attended the event last Thursday in the East India Room (pictured below). finews.asia founder Claude Baumann was particularly delighted to welcome H.E. Regula Kurzbein, Deputy Ambassador of Switzerland to Singapore. In his remarks, he underscored the invaluable and continuous support provided by the Embassy over the past decade.

In his keynote address, Baumann reflected on the profound transformation of Singapore’s financial landscape over the last ten years. He highlighted how the Government has consistently pursued a clear and deliberate strategy to position the Lion City as a leading global financial centre.

True Vision

«But Singapore is more than just the skyline of the CBD, chilli crab, or the Singapore Sling. It is a legacy dating back more than 200 years, when Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles laid the foundation for modern Singapore in 1819 as a British trading post. Since then, this place has nurtured visions, ambitions and dreams,» Baumann said.

Looking ahead, he recalled that the Singapore Fintech Festival, now Asia’s largest and most influential fintech event with 65,000 attendees from more than 130 countries, was also launched a decade ago in modest surroundings. Singapore, he noted, demonstrated true vision in championing technology that is reshaping the global financial industry.

«With AI, tokenization and quantum computing, we have only scratched the surface of a new and tremendously exciting world,» he added.

In the panel discussion that followed – sponsored by Lumen Capital Investors, Multipolitan, and Läderach Chocolatier Suisse – distinguished speakers Nirbhay Handa, Chris Künzle, David Ong, and Dominic Schacher explored the theme «NextGen Banking and the Future of Singapore». A video is currently in preparation.

The panelists emphasized that in an era dominated by Google searches, AI-generated content and social-media brevity, the commitment of trusted media such as finews.asia to producing original, insightful and high-quality journalism not only stands out but influences the broader industry.

«All in all, it was a well-curated panel, followed by excellent networking – made even more fluid by the generously served Singapore Slings,» one guest remarked with a twinkle in his eye.
