IIT Kharagpur Campus Experience

Hi Ushasee this side, I am a first year undergraduate student of IIT KHARAGPUR,enrolled in this btech course.Most of you know that IIT KHARAGPUR is located in West Bengal,established in 1951.The campus has an expanse of 2100 acres, the campus is situated in the town of kharagpur, few kms aways from kharagpur station.It offers a wide array of ug,pg,phd degress.around 17 departments are there .So taking about the student life in iit, i only spend one year in iit frankly speaking these days are the best days.total there are events like kshitij , spring fest, illu , hall days . So kshitij and spring fast mainly took place in the month of january, first kshitij took place followed by spring fest. Both the events are just amazing,those night showss , the events really its unforgettable. Secondly ,the hall days most enjoying days , in kgp halls are hostels actually. so for 2 weeks halldays are celebrated as scheduled. On these days boys can enter to girls hall and vice versa. then coming to illu it happens during diwali lightings happen to all halls following a theme. and then the most exciting things are the nightouts of kgp. students use bicycle for their transportation purpose , for college going and other purposes . maximum classes happen in nalanda complex in first year. ok so do not expect anything from the mess because all the cookings are worse,so you have to adjust at that point.
SEMESTER PURPOSE : Till now it was up to enjoyments fest and all sort of things. now lets come to the semester purpose . So talking about the load of studies , there will be physics semester and chemistry semester. if your first sem is physics sem then along with enjoyments do not forget to study beacuse it is not that easy. If you have chemistry sem then its peace. so 'peace' is very famous in kgp when you guys will come you will get to know.there will be exams in every 1.5 months interval , in autumn sem there will be mid sem and end sem same for spring semester too. In physics semester there are 3 labs physics lab,diy lab and engineering lab. In comparision physics lab is quite tough else all are peace. Coming to spring sem ,there are chemistry lab,pds lab, engineering drawing lab, english lab , all are peace except the pds lab. Or else chemistry sem is easy .
HALL EXPERIENCE : Hall experience are the most enjoyable. when you will come and make roommates from different states at first you will feel that you are not able to adjust with them . Also may be you will think that yu got the worst roommate. But always try to sacrifice and adjust. after a year you will realize that this is the est time which you are now going through.
FAMILY: for those who are cominf for the first time away from home,then really it will take some time to comepensate beacuse till 12th you are in a comfort zone ith proper invigilence and guide of parents. For me also it happened i cried a lott but gradually you will gain confidenc and gradually start your exciting journey.but yes always be in touch with your family.beacuse do not forget when no one will be there your parents are always by your side.
SOCITIES: In kgp there are many socities , there are many domains where you can join as per your interest.in kgp there are no scope of losing enjoyments because there are full of opportunities which you can utilize. if you are ineteresed to develop any of your skills then you can join respective society. There willl be selection process to enter into a soc mainly the selection processes are on the basis of group discussion and personal interview. there are 2 to 3 rounds to qualify.yes another important thing whch i wanna tell that if someone fail to qualify in any society interview then do not be upset. because society joining is not your goal. if you are so much interested then you can join also in 2nd yr. yesit is right that joining society increases connection. and PORs help during ur interview...
NIGHTOUTS AND ENJOYMENTS: here, in kgp everytime enjoyments knocks. during night time you can explore the beautiful campus with your bicycle and friends. and enjoy the fullest in the campus because never ever you are getting back this life.
So at last my suggestion is that do not hurry in any situations, and try your best . all the best.
