Whenever we collaborate on Google Docs with our team, we either use some external texting platform or are connected over voice/video calls to talk to other people. Well, this is no longer required. Google Docs provides its own chat feature to its users, which saves you from the hassle of switching attention to some other tab/app for talking to your teammates.

- Past chat cannot be accessed. If you reload the document, you'll not be able to see older chats.
- Only people who are online receive the chat messages. To communicate with anyone who isn’t looking at the document, you’ll have to leave comments instead.
- Chat messages are visible to everyone. Direct messages (DMs) are not supported.
- Sending files/attachments is not supported.
Conclusion
So, in Google Docs, you can chat with your team right there in the document. No need for extra apps or calls! It's super simple.
Just remember, the chats don't stay forever. If you want to keep them, copy and paste them somewhere. And only the people online can see the chats. For someone who isn't looking at the document, you need to use comments instead.
Even though it has a few things to keep in mind, like no direct messages or saving chats, Google Docs chat makes teamwork quick and easy.
