Application and Interview Process Overview of Samsung

Application Process

I applied through my college portal. After a review of my resume and CGPA, I received an invitation for an online assessment.

Online Assessment

The assessment was conducted on Samsung's built-in platform. We had 3 hours to solve a graph-based problem involving cycle detection in a graph. There were 10 test cases to pass. While we could run our code as many times as needed for testing, we were limited to 5 submissions. The problem was of medium difficulty, and many students struggled; only about 30 candidates solved all the test cases, which was the criterion for interview shortlisting. I successfully solved all the test cases and was informed an hour later that I had been shortlisted for the interview.

Interview Process

Technical Round (1 hour)

During the technical round, coding was required in either Java or C++, although some candidates opted for Python or C. It was crucial to have a deep understanding of my solution, as interviewers might ask about it later. The interviewer was friendly and supportive. After my introduction, we briefly discussed my machine learning project, which piqued his interest.

The main focus of the interview was on 3-4 graph-related questions, all of medium difficulty. These included follow-up questions about algorithms such as Dijkstra's and Floyd-Warshall. I explained my approach in detail, discussed time complexities, and justified my choice of data structures, like priority queues. The interviewer appeared pleased with my thorough understanding and responses.

We also touched upon my resume, including my academic achievements and internship experiences.

HR Round (25 minutes)

After successfully completing the technical round, I had an HR interview approximately 20 minutes later. This round began with my introduction, followed by questions related to my resume and professional experiences.

I was asked about conflicts with my mentor during my previous internship, how I handled challenges, my family background, and prior interview experiences. A key takeaway from this round was the importance of being concise. I realized that providing only necessary information and maintaining smooth communication is essential. I struggled with over-explaining, which contributed to not clearing the HR round.

Outcome

Ultimately, around 10 students were selected for the offer. Although I was not among them, this experience highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in communication skills.
