Walmart conducts two competitive exams each year through Unstop: SparkPlug and CodeHers.
SparkPlug is open to select colleges in India and is exclusively for third-year students. In contrast, CodeHers is designed specifically for female students in their third and fourth years of BTech. In CodeHers, fourth-year students participate in an interview, while third-year students are offered a direct internship.
SparkPlug Process
The SparkPlug exam consists of three rounds:
- MCQ on Computer Science Fundamentals: Based on my experience, the MCQs are structured similarly to Java code, asking about outputs and errors. Common topics include Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Operating Systems (OS), and Database Management Systems (DBMS).It's crucial to focus on time management during this round. Don’t underestimate the importance of these scores, as they contribute to the final selection. In our batch, approximately 20,000 people registered, but only 2,400 will be selected.
- Coding Round 1: Participants who completed both questions within 40-45 minutes were selected. The previous batch encountered easier questions; only those who solved both under 30 minutes advanced to the next round, indicating that the difficulty may vary by batch. For my coding questions, I received one on prefix arrays (easy) and another on subsequences (hard), both completed within 45 minutes. Approximately 1,500 out of the 2,400 candidates progressed to the next round.
- Coding Round 2: This round was the most challenging. I faced two graph questions, while many of my peers had a mix of one dynamic programming (DP) and one graph question or two DP questions. Since I just completed my test today, I’m uncertain about my selection, but I feel it may not be in my favor. Out of 1,500 candidates, only 100 will be selected for the internship.Regardless of the outcome, it's important to maintain confidence. Focus on understanding any mistakes made during the process rather than solely on whether you were selected.
Key Takeaways
Stay proficient in your data structures and algorithms (DSA), especially in dynamic programming, graphs, and recursion.
Wishing you all the very best for your future!
