“The truth is, everyone likes to look down on someone. If your favorites are all avant-garde writers who throw in Sanskrit and German, you can look down on everyone. If your favorites are all Oprah Book Club books, you can at least look down on mystery readers. Mystery readers have sci-fi readers. Sci-fi can look down on fantasy. And yes, fantasy readers have their own snobbishness. I’ll bet this, though: in a hundred years, people will be writing a lot more dissertations on Harry Potter than on John Updike. Look, Charles Dickens wrote popular fiction. Shakespeare wrote popular fiction—until he wrote his sonnets, desperate to show the literati of his day that he was real artist. Edgar Allan Poe tied himself in knots because no one realized he was a genius. The core of the problem is how we want to define “literature”. The Latin root simply means “letters”. Those letters are either delivered—they connect with an audience—or they don’t. For some, that audience is a few thousand college professors and some critics. For others, its twenty million women desperate for romance in their lives. Those connections happen because the books successfully communicate something real about the human experience. Sure, there are trashy books that do really well, but that’s because there are trashy facets of humanity. What people value in their books—and thus what they count as literature—really tells you more about them than it does about the book.”

“Do you know what punishments I've endured for my crimes, my sins? None. I am proof of the absurdity of men's most treasured abstractions. A just universe wouldn't tolerate my existence.”

“Why is it, my shadow-striding friend, that we don't fear dreams? We lose consciousness, lose control, things happen with no apparent logic and abiding by no apparent rules.... We don't fear dreams, but we do fear madness, and death terrifies us.”

Thank you for accepting my friend request! I love your books and can't wait to see what your next project is! I love how you can take amazing fantasy set in great worlds and connect it with real life issues. That is something I have learned from reading your works and have tried to work into my own writing. I just released my own book on Amazon and I hope that someday you will read it and see the influence your writing had on mine!
Hey Brent,Thank you for accepting my friend request. I love your books. Can't wait till september 2019....

I've also been suggesting (forcing) some of my friends to read it as well since I know that they'll love it as much as I do! Anyway keep up the awesome writing! :)

Hi Brent,I hope you are busy busy busy writing the next book in the Lightbringer series. Can't wait!
The way of shadows is one of the best books i've read in a long time, its what finally got me to transition from teen fiction to adult fiction. You are a really amazing writer!
I just want to say I think it's really cool that you have a GoodReads account and are friends with people, your fans, rather than just another author page. I love your books, they're slowly becoming some of my new favorites, and can't wait to finish the Night Angel Trilogy. When's the next Lightbringer book coming out? :D-Rahl
PS: I can't believe no one's commented on your page since April!
Brent,Long time since we've chatted, hope you and the wife are well.
I just pre-ordered "Perfect Shadow" on my Barnes and Nobles ColorNook! Can't wait for it to come out!

I read The Desert Spear, then I read the first book of The Night Angel Trilogy. I thought you might find that interesting.
Have to say that I love your books. Currently trying to get my boyfriend to read 'The Black Prism' before all the other books he insists he has to read. All of your books have really blown me away when reading them and i can't wait for your next book.Much love!<3

I just finished Beyond the Shadows, & I enjoyed it so much! I can't believe it's over. It was so wonderful; I cried really, really hard, haha. (: Thanks for the great trilogy, & I can't wait to read The Black Prism!
Hey Brent, your books look and sound so kick butt man. Have you been hit up for a movie deal yet? Your trilogy is on my list of must reads. I'm from up in the Longview/ Kelso area of Washington, think you will ever make an appearance for a signing up this way? You definitely got a lot of fans in this town. Everyone I talk to has heard of you and has your books.
Just checkin in on ya! Hope things are well! The weather is finally warming, I hope you guys are taking some time for yourselves to enjoy it! KIT,
Jennifer
Hope things are coming along well, and things aren't too stressful. Wishing you and Kristi a Happy early V-day!
Hey all you Brent Weeks fans! If you havn't checked out brentweeks.ning.com it is the ultimate Brent "Night Angels Trilogy" and the upcoming "Black Prism" trilogy website! I encourage everyone to take a peek, you never know what secrets, and Brent knowledge you'll find. Brent as you probably know likes to talk, sometimes even adds a bit of spoilers! So head over there, and enjoy the ride!
Just headed over to your website, joined the boards (a little late granted!). Just wanted to let all you goodreads fans to know that Brent has posted alot of interesting things over there. Maybe even a few *spoilers*, maybe not. I guess you'll have to go see for yourself!PS- If you didn't notice the obvious, the link is at the top of the page! lol
Congrats! You are the thirteenth most followed author on goodreads.com! I have no doubt that with the release of "Black Prism" you will be in the number one spot. At least if my votes have anything to do with it! I am waiting for the new year to arrive!

Jennifer,

Working on a way to get to Oregon in November!
Brent- I was visiting your website and was sickened to find that your cover to "Black Prism" was leaked! That is terrible. I do not think people realize how much work goes into your creative thoughts. I hope you find out who the creep(s) are and blog some of their intellectual property! OK so maybe I am a little vindictive, but it is better than what Durzo Blint would do to them *wink wink*
Brent I miss your books! I have been trying to find something to compare and I keep getting a sour taste in my mouth! Please tell me you are cooking up something special for your devoted fans? Sincerely,
Jennifer
PS- Is there anyway I can get a signed copy of your book(s)? I move around a lot with the military being a army wife but I will drive to a signing if I have to! I am still working on my husband to get time to read them, he is interested and he does not read often!
Just dropping in to say I just read the last page of "Beyond the Shadows" and your trilogy is some of the best writing I've read in years. Thanks for an awesome story! I could go on, but we'll be here all night!
Jennifer wrote: "Adele I have to agree. Brent is such an amazing writer, that I would be interested to see what his top favorite books are, and ones that he intends to read in the near future! Keep on writing Brent..."Well, thank you. I signed up here thinking, hey, I love books, I have strong opinions, this will be great! Then I realized I now have a pretty good chance of sometime meeting the authors I might have less-than-completely laudatory things to say about. That was a splash of cold water on the idea. Then, honestly, this site--cool as it is--has just been lower on my list of priorities with my web site, my forum, doing interviews, facebook, twitter, and oh yeah, trying to write. It IS still on the list of things to update and to put at least some of my favorites up on, but it is lower than a lot of things.
