This is the story of a very proud Scots man that does not like the English but still conducts himself in the correct way so that he and his family can live a stable life in the best manner in which they can under the conditions thrust upon him by the English. I will not give any exact story spoilers, but the book is in the era of the Rob Roy movies and follows a similar theme. It is historical based and very entertaining, an adventure or drama are the best words to describe the storyline. Well worth reading, I like the book cover, and I like the story line, I see a side to Rob Roy that the move does not provide. The story is written in a respectful way, but at the same time it does bring to the forth exactly what life was like in this era, the story is very pure and believable. The speed of the story quickens in places with more than one element to the story, sometimes the reader is required to juggle multiple story lines flowing through the book, but it is manageable and well worth reading for anybody interested in the 1700 and 1800 period....more

The Robin Hood story in my opinion is very well known due to many related books and moves, but this book does offer the occasional unique aspect in the Robin Hood story line that I have not seen on TV or read in any other books. The book is well written, follows the typical Robin Hood theme, the story moves at a pace that allows the reader to understand what is happening without getting lost in the storyline, this book is easy reading. If you like UK history then this book might be worth your time reading. I really enjoyed it, I enjoy it. The only downside in my opinion is the book cover, this could be allot better, but in all fairness this book was published long before we became over saturated with images that we could use on a book cover. But despite not liking the book cover, I still give it a five star rating....more

Every thing that you would want from a book from this period, lots of action and drama embedded throughout the story, the story line maintains a good pace throughout the book, at a pace that enables the reader to absorb the story without losing their way or feeling over saturated, The story takes place in a time were the Roman Empire is becoming more and more vulnerable towards them that oppose their rule. The story focuses upon the city of Ephesus , which is under threat from barbaric Goth tribes, and is in desperate need of a hero to help defend the city. Does the City survive? Read the book to find out the answer, I will not spoil the story. The chapters throughout the book are numbered using Roman Numerics which adds a bit of class to the book. The story is 366 pages long, which makes it a good read, and not a book to read in a day. I really enjoyed it, the book cover was nice and attractive and the reason I bought the book. Well worth reading for people interesting the Roman Empire. No editorial errors that I discovered. Very good book...more
