The first half of 2025 has been a period of real change for the fine wine market. Geopolitical shifts, new tariffs, and a weaker dollar have all played a part, yet Acker saw auction volume rise by 20% and retail sales grow by 8%. What really stood out was the strong demand for older vintages—especially pre-1990—which saw significant price appreciation, while newer releases faced more resistance and downward price pressure. Regionalization is also becoming more pronounced, with collectors increasingly buying and selling within their own markets. What a debut. Acker’s first-ever Swiss auction in Zurich was a celebration from start to finish—achieving over $5M in sales, setting more than 46 world records for domaine-direct producers, and and welcoming nearly half of all bidders as first-time buyers. Acker’s April Hong Kong auction featuring "The Immaculate Collection of The Chairman" achieved a remarkable HK$90 million in sales, with spirited global bidding for rare mature wines. Top lots included six bottles of 1947 Château Cheval Blanc, a single bottle of 1865 Château d’Yquem, and a full case of 1990 DRC La Tache in original wooden case, underscoring the enduring demand for legendary Bordeaux and Burgundy. This historic event marked Acker’s largest Hong Kong sale in nearly four years and set the stage for even more excitement in the months ahead. Acker’s inaugural U.S. auction of 2025 in Delaware achieved an impressive $5.6M, showcasing extraordinary collections from three renowned cellars, dubbed the “Three Kings.” Burgundy dominated the sale, with Domaine Leroy and d’Auvenay accounting for 70% of the Top Ten Lots.
