Our third Gen-3 satellite delivered its first very high-resolution images less than 24 hours following a successful launch this month. “BlackSky’s third Gen-3 unit has delivered incredible initial image quality at unprecedented speed—less than one day from launch,” said Brian OToole, BlackSky CEO. “Customers no longer have to wait months typically associated with traditional commissioning timelines. BlackSky’s rapid commissioning process places tasking capacity into customers’ hands quickly and increases the overall operational life of each satellite as they come online sooner.” With remarkable clarity, the new Gen-3 satellite has delivered imagery detailing vehicles, maritime vessels, and aircraft of various sizes, as well as individual people and their shadows. Image quality is expected to increase as final calibrations become complete, and the satellite enters its final operational altitude. BlackSky partnered with Reuters in a visual investigation, collecting high-cadence, time-diverse imagery and AI-enabled vessel detection analytics that detailed the role civilian vessels played in Chinese maritime exercises this summer. In August, a series of five images collected over six hours documented an active amphibious landing drill, revealing cargo vessels offloading vehicles onto shore for the first time and participation of a self-propelled temporary pier system not seen active since 2023. During an aerial demonstration on 18 November at the Dubai Airshow, Gen-3 collected a high-resolution image of a formation of L-15 jets in action—and our AI-powered analytics detected each aircraft in the scene. This is the power of real-time, space-based intelligence: enabling faster insight, greater situational awareness and mission-ready analytics.

Thank you to Economist Impact events and the University of Central Florida (UCF) for hosting an engaging and forward thinking Space Economy Summit in Orlando. The event brought together leaders from across government, industry and academia to explore how innovation, policy and partnerships are shaping the future of the space economy. As UCF celebrated their Space Week, this very-high resolution BlackSky image of the UCF campus highlights how our advanced imaging capabilities bring clarity to dynamic environments on Earth. This image was captured at 8:14 a.m. on 5 November, just before Scot Currie, BlackSky's VP of Geospatial Solutions took the stage to discuss how AI is widening access to insights and solving problems for customers. https://hubs.la/Q03T6XWr0

We are pleased to announce that Jamil Kawar has joined BlackSky as Senior Vice President, International Satellite Sales. In this role, Jamil will spearhead BlackSky’s global expansion and drive the adoption of sovereign, space-based ISR solutions – enabling nations to progress from initial constellation launch to full national ownership, autonomy and operational control. “BlackSky is uniquely positioned to meet a generational shift in the way nations secure strategic advantage in space,” said Kawar. “As space rapidly becomes mission-critical to national security, the ability to independently observe, assess and act is now central to modern deterrence. I look forward to deepening partnerships with governments and industry leaders to deliver fully integrated, sovereign space-based intelligence capabilities that strengthen security, resilience and economic growth.” Jamil brings more than 25 years of senior leadership experience across global sales, business development and strategic advisory roles within the aerospace, defense and national security sectors, spanning the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
