Yesterday, coachbetter.com hosted another edition of their legendary Coachbetter Partner Events: A nice and relaxed summer affair in the beautiful setting of the House of FIFA: Conversations, a football match, dinner together, perfect! And it was competitive, of course. After all, a football game is intended to be won: This year, Team Coachbetter finally managed to beat FIFA FC!! I try to attend that event every year. Mostly for the fun and the action, but I am also very grateful for the opportunity to show that we care - like so many of the partners and fellow investors. We want to be a part of the team, and we have to. The post match conversations once again confirmed a few convictions, certainly applicable in the world of early-stage-investing, but also in many other areas: 1. Strong support networks are key, and it takes time and effort to build and to maintain them. 2. Smart founders/leaders - as well as smart investors - regularly assess and improve on support networks in their ecosystems. 3. This includes investor networks, partner networks and - never to be forgotten!! - personal support networks. It is extremely difficult and demanding to build and grow an outstanding business, to disrupt industries, to build the future. If you want to go far, go together.
