In 2024, the EU spent an estimated €403.1 billion on research & development (R&D), indicating a 3.6% increase from 2023 (€389.2 billion). 📈📃 🔹R&D intensity, defined as R&D expenditure as a percentage of GDP, remained stable at 2.2%, similar to previous years. In 2024, the EU sea ports handled around 3.4 billion tonnes of freight (total gross weight). 🚢📦 Top maritime freight transport ports: 🇳🇱 Rotterdam (397 million tonnes) 🇧🇪 Antwerp-Bruges (244 million tonnes) 🇩🇪 Hamburg (97 million tonnes) ⛽ The largest share of goods handled by main EU ports in 2024 was coal and lignite, crude petroleum and natural gas with 19.0%. 𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧 𝗩 – 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 📊 The third meeting of the Working Group on Administrative and New Sources under the MEDSTAT V Programme was successfully held online.
