One of the largest state university systems in the country is reporting encouraging numbers. The State University of New York (SUNY) announced that its overall enrollment grew by 2.9% in fall 2025, marking the system’s third consecutive year of gains. First-time undergraduate enrollment rose 3.1%, reaching approximately 70,400 students. 📈 Community colleges were a major driver of this growth. SUNY’s 30 community colleges saw headcount increase by 5.0%, including a 4.8% rise in first-time community college students. Transfer enrollment also grew by 4.7%, totaling more than 26,000 students. At the same time, and as part of a trend we're seeing at other colleges and universities across the country, international enrollment declined by 3.9%, with sharper decreases at the graduate level. 🏛️ Much of SUNY’s progress is attributed to SUNY Reconnect, an initiative providing tuition-free community college opportunities for New Yorkers aged 25 to 55 pursuing programs in high-demand fields, such as nursing and engineering. 🔬 This momentum in New York is part of a larger trend worth watching nationwide. Sustained enrollment increases will play a critical role in the long-term health, stability, and solvency of the higher education ecosystem across the country. 🎓 https://lnkd.in/eUeqb9Fc #highereducation #highered #education #collegesanduniversities

Remote learning during the pandemic didn’t just disrupt education—it rewired it. Jason Bedford, senior vice president and general manager of high school, Kaplan, breaks down how parents’ front-row seat to online classrooms reshaped their expectations and sparked a movement toward micro-schools, project-based learning, and student-centric design. The result? A fundamental rethink of what learning should look like. 🏫 He says, in part, "This parental shift, from helicopter-like hovering to a willingness to actively partner with schools, has created real market pressure for viable alternatives to the educational status quo. Those changing expectations dovetail with new research-backed approaches centered around three pillars of transformation: STEAM curriculum that integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics; project-based learning that builds durable skills by moving from knowledge acquisition to knowledge application; and student-centricity, including personalization and flexible approaches that accommodate different types of learners." 📚 Click the link below to discover why parent-driven innovation may be the most important force in education today. 🎓 https://lnkd.in/e9QcBjau #k12 #education #parents #parenting

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has made a historic $38 million gift to Xavier University of Louisiana, marking the largest private donation in the university’s history. This is Scott’s second major investment in Xavier — in 2020, she contributed $20 million in recognition of the university’s national impact as the only Historically Black and Catholic institution in the United States. This latest gift directly supports Xavier’s Centennial Capital Campaign, a transformative effort designed to enhance affordability, expand student support services, and strengthen academic and professional pathways. XULA President Reynold Verret expressed deep gratitude for Scott’s generosity, noting that her trust in Xavier’s mission fuels an even deeper commitment to developing leaders grounded in truth, justice, and service. Kaplan is proud to partner with a number of dynamic HBCUs, including Xavier University of Louisiana, through our All Access License®, which empowers colleges and universities to help their students prepare for a variety of high-stakes admissions and licensing exams that they need to score well on to reach their ultimate professional goals — with zero out-of-pocket costs for students. It’s another powerful reminder that when institutions and partners align, students win! https://lnkd.in/eZHDgU69 #collegesanduniversities #highereducation #highered #education #hbcu #hbcus #xula

During an exclusive Kaplan panel webinar, we heard powerful insights on what it really takes to strengthen career readiness in higher education. One of the standout perspectives came from Joe Testani, deputy to the president at the University of Rochester, who emphasized three core priorities: amplifying the student voice, articulating a clear value proposition, and embracing innovation to meet the evolving needs of today’s learners. "For us, student success is about holistic support for students. It’s not just getting them through academically and graduating them on time, but weaving in career education and wellness from the first day they arrive here to launching them successfully. Even after that, we believe in supporting them as alumni—whether they go straight to work or go into graduate school," he said. And when asked about higher education’s biggest opportunity over the next five years, he added that this moment demands a deep commitment to innovation. He emphasized that institutions are standing at a pivotal crossroads and must be willing to embrace real change—both in mindset and in practice. According to Testani, the sector needs to strengthen its capacity for effective change management while still holding tight to its core values and mission. The challenge, he noted, is finding new and creative ways to live those values as the landscape continues to shift. 📈 The U.S. Attracts More International Students Than Ever — Can This Upswing Continue? According to the annual Open Doors report from the Institute of International Education and the U.S. Department of State, over the past year, colleges across the United States welcomed a record 1.2 million international students, rising by 4.5% — proof that global interest in an American education remains strong. Walk onto almost any campus today and you can feel that buzz: a mix of languages, perspectives, traditions, and ambitions that makes the academic environment feel more alive and forward-looking. 🏛️ But beneath that headline growth, some warning signs are emerging. Early data from fall 2025 shows a 1% dip in total international enrollment, driven mostly by a steep drop in graduate students. Even more concerning is a 17% decline in newly admitted international students across many campuses — a shift that could hit smaller, tuition-dependent colleges especially hard and force difficult budget decisions. 🎓 Still, numbers only tell part of the story. International students reshape classroom conversations, enrich cultural life, spark new collaborations, and strengthen global understanding — adding connection, creativity, and depth to the tapestry of higher education worldwide. 🌎 https://lnkd.in/dGfsmGQH #highereducation #highered #internationaleducation #education #collegesanduniversities

The conversation around student success is shifting toward deeper, more meaningful benchmarks. During an exclusive panel interview with Kaplan, Aaron Ray, president of the Higher Education Opportunity Program Professional Organization (HEOPPO) and director of opportunity programs at Hamilton College, shared his unique insights. He highlights how defining "success" goes beyond traditional metrics like GPA, including focusing on a student's personal growth, passion, and ability to navigate their own path. And he emphasizes the importance of intentional, relationship-based support. On that note, HEOPPO is expanding opportunity in a big way with its new initiative providing universal test prep to students at 10 campuses across New York State. Through Kaplan’s All Access License®, HEOP students can now prepare for the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, DAT, and NCLEX-RN, at no cost. This partnership ensures students have the tools they need to excel on the exams that open doors to graduate programs, professional schools, and licensure. By removing financial barriers, closing the opportunity gap, and boosting economic mobility, HEOPPO is helping level the playing field and empowering students to pursue their ambitions with momentum and clarity. A new report, The Role of AI in Higher Education: Young Voices, New Visions—featured in Poets&Quants—finds that young Americans are still deciding how they feel about artificial intelligence. Only 21% say they feel excited and optimistic about AI’s potential, while 31% feel more anxious. Nearly half fall somewhere in between—both curious and concerned. Optimism tends to be higher among men, Republicans, and frequent AI users, while women and those who rarely use AI remain more skeptical. Experience appears to shape confidence. Regular AI users are far more likely to see it as expanding job opportunities, while non-users largely expect it to limit them. Among those who’ve never tried AI, 71% believe it will hurt their career prospects—compared to just 44% of regular users who share that concern. Our Take: AI anxiety reflects both uncertainty and opportunity. As exposure grows, skepticism may give way to practicality—shifting from fear to familiarity as AI becomes part of classrooms, workplaces, and daily life. https://lnkd.in/eNpZHw8M #artificialintelligence #highereducation #highered #education
