Such a powerful reflection on the lasting impact of donation, and an incredible spotlight on one of Montana’s own bioscience innovators, Xtant Medical in Belgrade. Their work is a profound example of how Montana companies transform compassion into healing, advancing medical science while honoring the generosity of donors. Thank you, K Mita, for recognizing the life-changing innovation happening right here in our state’s bioscience community. Also, thank you, Primo J. Castro with Biotechnology Innovation Organization, for joining this insightful tour. #MontanaBioscience #XtantMedical #OrganDonation #InnovationInMontana #LifeSciences
Many of us have the organ donor box checked on our driver’s license — I do too. But I hadn’t really considered what that means beyond those powerful stories of someone receiving a lifesaving transplant just in time. The truth is, only a small percentage of organs are suitable for transplant. Most donors give tissue and bone, which still make an incredible difference in improving—and sometimes saving—lives. In Belgrade, Montana, Xtant Medical helps turn these donations into healing. They receive, prepare, and preserve gifted tissue for spine surgeries and orthopedic procedures. Stored carefully at –40°C, these materials are transformed into products like Demineralized Bone Matrix (3Demin), which helps new bone grow in spinal fusion surgeries. During my visit, I was deeply moved by their remembrance wall, honoring the donors whose final gifts continue to restore mobility, reduce pain, and give others a second chance. A powerful reminder that generosity can live on—literally—through others. Montana Bioscience Alliance / Cassandra Sunell Biotechnology Innovation Organization / Primo J.
