🏉 Pivoting Career from an Athlete to Brand Leader Francisco B. Guerra IV , MBA’s (MBA 2018 - SF) career is more like a series of calculated leaps - shaped by instinct, strategy, and a deep understanding of people. Now the Senior Brand Marketing Manager at moomoo, Kit’s journey has taken him across industries, continents, and roles. Along the way, he’s picked up powerful lessons - here are three that stood out: 1️⃣ Your background is your edge Before stepping into the world of brand strategy, Kit represented the Philippines as a three-sport professional athlete in Rugby, American Football, and Powerlifting. That experience didn’t just shape his discipline - it shaped his leadership. “You learn to play heads up. You adapt when plans fail. You stay coachable and confident in your abilities.” 2️⃣ There’s no one way to build a meaningful career Kit moved from creative agencies to client-side strategy, and from Southeast Asia back to the U.S. - all while recalibrating what “growth” meant to him. “My career wasn’t a ladder - it was a squiggly line. Built one ‘next best action’ at a time.” 3️⃣ The role you don’t take matters too After being laid off during the pandemic, Kit didn’t apply to every open role. He paused. He built a portfolio. He re-evaluated. And then he patiently and intentionally applied for roles that brought him closer to his long-term goal. “This time, I didn’t spray and pray. I applied for jobs that aligned with my goals - and I was able to go in-house."
