Vets to Tech Sales | Defense Tech Talent Agency Owner | I’ll help you break into tech sales AND make sure you are really good once you are in. Transition + Training

Where would Arena Talent be without Tim Ogden and John McGunnigle? Honestly—probably nowhere close to where we are today. When Eric Schmidt and I launched this company, we had zero clients. No track record. No brand. Just two guys and two laptops. Tim was the first one to step up. He heard what we were building and said, without hesitation:
“I want to be your first client.” That kind of belief hits different when you’re starting from nothing. We went to work. And after a few months, Tim began opening up his network—one introduction after another.  One of those intros was to John McGunnigle, Co-Founder of Spear AI. John was building from scratch. Money was tight. He told us straight up he could only afford $10K per placement.  Most firms would’ve walked. But Eric and I understood the long game.  We said yes. That yes changed everything. Today, Spear AI is our largest customer. We’ve placed over 15 people for them this year alone. And after the fourth or fifth hire, John called us and said something I’ll never forget: “Business is picking up. I want to do right by you. Tell me what you think is a fair fee, and we’ll pay it.” Recently he told us he needed more help with technical hires. He added:
“Random firms keep sending me candidates, but I’m not using them. If I’m paying for talent, I’m paying The Arena.” Let me tell you something:
 Loyal customers exist.
 Honorable customers exist.
Customers who operate with transparency, fairness, and reciprocity exist. And they can change the trajectory of your company. John has taught me more about “good business” than any contract ever has—because he embodies what so many talk about but rarely practice:
Loyalty. Honesty. Fairness. Partnership. He set a new standard for what a good customer looks like. And I’m deeply grateful for it. It also helps that John, Tim and I all went to the boat school.  The goat is old and gnarly. #InTheArena

  • We’re proud to share our special feature from Duluth, MN’s Northern News Now. As Anchor Dan Wolfe put it, “The future is now.” Spear AI and Anno.Ai were born from the mission to use evolving technology to boost national security. Duluth's unique environment gives us the ideal setting to test these solutions in real-world conditions. We’re invested in this community. Thank you, Dan, for your brilliant storytelling. https://lnkd.in/g-SB--xj

  • Honoring all who served 🇺🇸 Honoring veterans isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s something that’s part of our founding story and the mission behind our work. Over half of Spear AI's workforce have backgrounds as veterans, come from military families or have a spousal connection—with many falling into multiple categories. These individuals represent five branches, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, with some having served over 30 years. Their service, resilience and leadership shape who we are as a company.

  • Today marks the launch of our Software Engineering Training Pipeline, starting with Graeme Nelson, a former submarine officer with a BS in Computer Science who transitioned to us through the DoD-SkillBridge program. Our 3-month intensive program is designed to bridge the technical gap, transforming veterans with technical backgrounds into full-stack, infrastructure, and modernization engineers. We believe military veterans possess the essential qualities that make exceptional software engineers—discipline, problem-solving under pressure, adaptability, teamwork, and mission-focused execution. These skills, honed through years of service, provide a foundation that's incredibly difficult to teach but absolutely critical for building great technology. We're not just hiring talent, we're home-growing it, investing in the people who've already proven they can perform under the most challenging circumstances. This pipeline covers everything from React and TypeScript to AWS infrastructure, Docker, and Rust systems programming, culminating in a portfolio of production-ready applications. We're proud to build a team that reflects the values of service, excellence, and continuous learning.

What an incredible evening at the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce's 155th Annual Celebration! The commitment to driving Duluth forward was evident in every conversation. Chamber President Matthew Baumgartner, MBA highlighted the impressive range of initiatives happening across our city right now. Hearing him mention Spear AI and speak to our innovation here was truly humbling. The work we're doing alongside these other innovators will benefit this community significantly, and we're honored to be part of Duluth's next chapter.
