WHO Regional Office for Europe’s Post

At the 18th EPH Conference in Helsinki 🇫🇮 (11–14 Nov 2025), Marc Gallego Garcia from the WHO/Europe’s Health and Migration Programme, Elena Val from International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Sabrina Montante from the European Commission presented key achievements from the EU-funded joint project supporting refugees and displaced people from Ukraine. The session showcased how participating countries are enabling displaced health workers from Ukraine🇺🇦to continue their medical professions—helping restore careers, strengthening national health systems, and ensuring critical expertise is not lost. WHO/Europe is working with EU Health and Food Safety, and IOM Europe and Central Asia and IOM Global Office Brussels, to support countries in improving access to health-care services for refugees and displaced people from Ukraine. Among those forced to leave their homes are doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, people who hold the knowledge and skills to protect and save lives every day. The project gives them the opportunity to continue their vital work in the countries that now host them.
