Global campuses in India? Before we celebrate, let’s look at the ground reality… In While the move to bring UK universities to India sounds transformative, we must ask: Are we building castles in the air while our foundation crumbles? The “Vocal for Local” vision should begin with strengthening our own education ecosystem. Here's the ground reality: Primary education still struggles India ranks low in foundational literacy and numeracy. A 2025 UNESCO report shows over 70% of Class 3 students cannot read age-appropriate texts or do basic math. Government universities face chronic underfunding. Labs lack equipment, libraries are outdated, and faculty shortages plague rural colleges. In many villages, over 40% of teaching posts remain vacant. Mental health crisis in students is rising12,500 student suicides in 2024, a 15% increase from the previous year. Poverty remains a barrier: As of 2025, 21.9% of India’s population lives below the poverty line, limiting access to quality education. Before importing global campuses, let’s invest in our own classrooms, teachers, and infrastructure. Only then can India truly become a global knowledge superpower by 2047. Let’s not outsource excellence, let’s cultivate it. . . . #EducationReform #VocalForLocal #NEP2020 #GroundReality #India2047 #InclusiveGrowth #LinkedInCommentary University Grants Commission (UGC) NITI Aayog Official

There was a time when Indian students looked outward for world-class education. Today, global universities are setting up campuses in India, not just recruiting from India. Prestigious names from Australia, the UK, and the US are planting roots here, drawn by University Grants Commission (UGC), India’s forward-looking policy for transnational education (TNE), and the country’s demographic dividend. And yet, the story does not end there. While the world arrives at India’s doorstep, Indian universities are emerging in unprecedented numbers in the QS Quacquarelli Symonds and Times Higher Education (THE) world rankings. It is a powerful dual shift redefining the education map. What was once a one-way flow of students and ideas has now become a reciprocal movement of talent and knowledge. Global institutions are drawn to India’s National Education Policy (NEP 2020), the opening of international campuses, and a vibrant research and innovation ecosystem. This marks growing confidence in India’s academic future. At the same time, Indian universities are becoming globally connected and recognised for academic quality and societal impact. The climb may be gradual, but the direction is clear: upward and outward. As someone who has witnessed this transformation closely through the lens of academic leadership, international partnerships, and institutional growth, I find this moment both inspiring and defining. It is a quiet transformation, but a profound one. We are moving from being a “talent exporter” to a knowledge creator. From sending students abroad to hosting global learners. From benchmarking against the world to becoming the benchmark. #HigherEducation #TransnationalEducation #Internationalisation #GlobalUniversities #India #GlobalPartnerships

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Top UK universities—Southampton, Liverpool, York, Aberdeen, and Bristol—are setting up campuses across India, from Gurugram to Bangalore to Mumbai. But this development isn’t just about accessibility. It’s about readiness—who among us is willing to grow, adapt, and rise to new expectations. 𝗧𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞: 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮—Where Parents Don't Settle for Less: After Brexit dropped international student numbers, India became a natural partner. But Indian parents are discerning; they look beyond glossy brochures and tall promises. They expect real value: global exposure, authentic learning, and education that leads to meaningful careers. Degrees alone won't cut it; the experience must justify every rupee spent. 𝗧𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹: Global players have entered the field. It’s time to innovate, not imitate. Students now have options that once meant flying across continents. To stay relevant, Indian institutions must offer value that stands shoulder to shoulder with the best worldwide. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀: 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗨𝗽—𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Here's what is often forgotten: University culture isn't just built by faculty and facilities—students shape it. IB Schools have the advantage, as their students already think critically and research independently. CBSE Schools, the shift from memorization to critical thinking now has a clear destination. The old model of education is fading fast, and Indian schools must prepare cohorts that match global standards to lead the future. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗗𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀? If UK campuses stay true to global education, Indian students might get international exposure without leaving home; else it's just expensive local education with a foreign label. 🎓 Foreign Universities in India — Opportunity or Illusion ? 🇮🇳 Lately, there has been a lot of discussion around foreign universities opening campuses in India. But a few important questions need honest reflection 👇 🔹 Are these foreign university campuses offering 'real quality', or just false branding under a global name ? 🔹 Are they 'academic institutions' in true spirit, or simply 'commercial ventures' seeking new markets ? 🔹 Could their presence pose a long-term danger' to India’s growing higher education ecosystem? 🔹 And most importantly — is our own education system really 'inferior to the West', or are we just conditioned to believe so ? In my recent analysis, I have tried to explore these questions 'objectively and factually', not to criticize, but to encourage a national conversation on how India can pursue true academic excellence without losing its identity. India’s higher education system is evolving rapidly, and this is the right time to pause, reflect, and ensure that our policies serve the cause of quality, not commerce. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. 💬 👉 What’s your view — are foreign universities in India a path to progress, or a well-packaged illusion ? Let’s discuss and learn from each other’s insights. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome! 🙏 Read full article here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gaWedjx9

Nine #UK #Universities to Establish #Campuses in #India — A New Era for #GlobalEducation Big news in higher education! During UK Prime Minister #KeirStarmer’s visit to India, an agreement was announced allowing nine leading UK universities to set up campuses in India marking a milestone moment in international education and collaboration. This move supports India’s National Education Policy (#NEP) 2020 and new #UGC guidelines enabling top global universities to offer degrees locally giving Indian students world-class opportunities without leaving home. Why It Matters? Global learning, local access. Indian students can now earn UK degrees at home. Affordable international education. Save on travel, visas, and living abroad. Research & innovation boost. Strengthened Indo-UK collaboration in #science, #AI, and #sustainability. Economic growth. Creates new hubs for talent, research, and industry partnerships. Key Challenges Ahead: Maintaining academic parity with UK standards. Recruiting global-caliber faculty. Balancing affordability with excellence. Navigating regulatory and cultural differences. My Take? This is more than just campus expansion it’s a strategic shift in global education. India is positioning itself as a destination for transnational learning, while UK universities gain a dynamic new frontier for innovation and impact. This partnership could redefine how we think about “studying abroad” because soon, the world’s best education may be right here in India. #IndiaUKEducation #GlobalEducation #HigherEducation #InternationalCollaboration #NEP2020 #UGC #FutureOfLearning #StudyInIndia #EducationPolicy #Innovation #StudentSuccess #IndiaUKPartnership
