Matt McCartney’s Post

It's been a little while since I openly talked about Jingle Squad - mostly because the team have had their heads down, cracking on with the job of creating the volume so there hasn't been much to say. As such, chapter 3 is close to complete and with it the first 100 pages of the book. Back in January we identified this as the milestone for the start of the next phase of the project, which we also planned to line up with Thought Bubble next month - namely the dreaded 'pitching' phase. In many ways this is the hardest part. Writing, drawing, story telling is easy and fun, but working out how to package what you have created and effectively sell it to someone, now that's a trick. As a team we're not entirely without form here, all of us have had Graphic Novels published before (some considerably more than others, by which I mean everyone more than me 😀 ), so we have a few contacts to try, but there will also be a fair amount of 'blind approaches' and whatever way you look at it, work is about to be judged. It's very easy to try and put a spin it, but the reality is, that after 6 years of writing, a year of production, with another year still to go, the total uncertainly of what comes next is enough to turn my underwear brown. I hope that at some point soon(ish) I'm able to talk about publishing partnerships and as someone once sort of said 'A planing coming together' - but I have no idea how this part plays out, only that I need to put on my big boy pants and have a go...
