Insights from space → impact on the ground. 🚀🌍🔭 We recently marked a significant milestone: 🔟 years of the Copernicus Programme at Frontex. This programme has had a profound impact on our border management efforts, providing our teams with critical satellite data to inform decision-making and optimisze resource allocation. Over the past decade, we've seen firsthand the difference that Earth observation data can make in responding to emerging situations and allocating resources effectively. As we reflect on the programme's success, we're grateful for the partnerships and collaborations that havehas made it possible. Space4Rail: Enabling Innovation in Railway Operations with Space-Based Assets Space4Rail is an initiative of European Space Agency - ESA designed to support the railway community by highlighting the benefits that space-based assets can bring to railway applications. The initiative identifies ESA funding programmes that facilitate the use of communication, position, navigation and time, and Earth observation satellites to address current challenges in railway operations. ESA provides both financial and technical support, acting as a facilitator between the space industry, the railway sector and service providers. Opportunities are available through open competition and direct negotiation, depending on the maturity of the activity and the space-based assets involved. Australia has launched the Australasian Space Innovation Institute (ASII) to strengthen sovereign capability and accelerate space commercialisation. Announced at the International Astronautical Congress in Sydney, the new not-for-profit will: - Bridge government, defence, industry and research. - Focus on earth observation, satellite communications, navigation and timing. - Provide local pathways for prototyping, testing and launch. - Act as a neutral connector, complementing the Australian Space Agency. Industry and Science Minister Tim Ayres said the sector now employs 10,000 people and generates $1.1 billion annually, but dependence on foreign satellites and data remains a major vulnerability. ASII’s mission is to reduce reliance on offshore providers, close commercialisation gaps, and deliver practical benefits for sectors from agriculture to disaster response. 🎉𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡! Their breakthrough satellite payload – known as the Payload Data Handling and Transmitter (PDHT) – has gained market traction, following ESA support. 🛰️PDHT, which was developed under our Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) Core Competitiveness programme, is a small part of the payload that allows satellites to not only transmit collected data down to Earth, but also store this data on board when there are no ground stations visible at any given time. 🛰️ With this payload, which allows for rapid and reliable data transmission from low Earth orbit (LEO), WideNorth secures a market niche and allows companies to reduce the cost of their satellite missions. 📚Read more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/euRbDga3 🏷️European Space Agency - ESA, Domenico Mignolo, Joan Fort Alsina
