We are grateful to see forces in UK using our TecSAFE mobile safeguarding technology to protect victims of domestic abuse and VAWG offences. Please read the story of Dorset Police below to see how this technology makes such a difference in helping forces save lives of people in their communities. #UKPolice #VAWG #PDS
HERE FOR HER SAFETY | As part of our commitment to tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) and supporting victims, we have been embracing new technology. The Home Office-approved TecSAFE mobile safeguarding technology, provided by Police Digital Service (PDS), is one of the tools we use to protect victims of domestic abuse and VAWG offences. A recent incident in the county demonstrated how the TecSAFE technology was able to provide discreet yet crucial support. Following a prison release, a perpetrator - who had a documented history of domestic abuse - was freed under strict conditions meant to safeguard the victim. However, instead of adhering to these legal restrictions, the perpetrator went straight to the victim’s residence and launched a violent attack with a knife. During the assault, the victim’s personal phone was destroyed. It was then that they activated their TecSAFE device and, keeping it hidden to ensure the perpetrator remained unaware, called for help. TecSAFE is designed to provide discreet and direct access to the police control room, triggering an emergency response even in the event of a silent call. Officers were immediately dispatched. Upon arrival, they found that the perpetrator had fled the scene. However, the recorded emergency call provided crucial evidence, aiding authorities in tracking down and arresting the suspect. Reflecting on the incident, the victim shared that the TecSAFE device was not only easy to use but ultimately ‘saved their life’. Detective Superintendent Neil Wright, Dorset Police’s operational lead for Violence Against Women and Girls and Domestic Abuse, said: “We remain fully committed to tackling violence against women and girls in Dorset and supporting victims to send a message that we are here for their safety. “Domestic abuse is a key focus for us, and we will look at every way possible to support victims, embrace technology and give them additional tools to assist with safeguarding. “This case is a clear example of the benefits of technology such as TecSAFE and the real difference it is making to domestic abuse victims and other victims of crime.”
