The very, very best founders who create companies so iconic they become the biggest in the world are typically starting only one company. They don't have to be former startup employees, though: Steve Jobs was at Artari, that's true, but Jeff Bezos led a Hedge Fund, and Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates started out of uni.
