Quick thought #2: Who are the beneficiaries of your employee benefits?
Modern day organizations and employees are not simple creatures of the industrial era when making employees happy was as easy as bade babu declaring bonus, sweets and clothes for all on Diwali.
Organizations today believe in compensating their employees with more than just salary. Medical cover, safe workplace, (free?) food, transport facilities, (zero interest) loans and many other things constitute of modern day employee benefits.
The question for business leaders and managers is -
Are your employees actually benefiting from the benefits you extend?
Is medical cover you extend just customary or do your employees know how to utilize it at the time of a medical emergency?
Do you provide transport facilities on only the most popular routes or do your ensure safe transportation with last mile connectivity?
Are you unnecessarily subsidizing the canteen food at the cost of quality, hygiene and health of your employees?
The answers are difficult and are usually found flattened under the pressures of annual budgets and cost-cutting initiatives. Businesses should realize that "employee benefits" is a cost line item only when your employee doesn't buy it.
