Fujitsu has participated in the PostgreSQL community for over 20 years and has contributed to PostgreSQL development by developing new features, as well as creating and reviewing correction patches. And last year we took our team contributions to a whole new level.
Fujitsu's contributions to PostgreSQL in 2024: Insights from Robert Haas
The information in this post is based on the blog post Who Contributed to PostgreSQL Development in 2024? by Robert Haas, a major contributor and committer in the PostgreSQL community, we will introduce the contributions made to PostgreSQL development by our PostgreSQL team members in 2024.
Program code development in the PostgreSQL community involves patch creation, review, testing, and committing, and reports and discussions are conducted on the mailing list.
In his article, Robert Haas sets indicators for these tasks and reports the results of his analysis. We are extremely grateful to him for sharing his valuable information with us.
Contribution as primary author
This section presents the results of a survey of the main authors of committed patches, based on the number of lines of code added by each author. Four Fujitsu team members were ranked in the top 50 for 2024.

Contributing a commit
In the PostgreSQL community, patches are reviewed intensively by many developers at a commit fest and are finally committed (approved) by a committer who has the authority to rewrite the source code in the Git repository. The committer decides the specifics of what source code and features to add, in consultation with the patch developer and reviewers.
This section presents the results of a compilation of the number of lines of new code that were the target of commits of patches that the committer was not the primary creator of. Amit Kapila, a senior director at PostgreSQL and a major contributor and committer in the PostgreSQL community, ranked second in the 2024 rankings.

Contributing to the mailing list
The PostgreSQL community has many mailing lists for different purposes. Among them, the pgsql-hackers mailing list is where PostgreSQL developers discuss current development issues, bugs, and proposed new features.
This section presents the results of a survey using the number of emails sent to the pgsql-hackers mailing list as an indicator. Seven Fujitsu team members are on the list of people who sent more than 100 emails in 2024.

Topics: Contributor certification
Hayato Kuroda has been contributing to the community as a member of the Fujitsu PostgreSQL team since 2022. His recent development contributions to PostgreSQL have been recognized, and he was certified as a PostgreSQL contributor in January 2025.
The Fujitsu PostgreSQL team led by Amit Kapila now has five certified contributors, including Hayato Kuroda.
Comment from Hayato Kuroda
I have been recognized as a contributor to PostgreSQL. I have been working on improving logical replication and fixing bugs, so I am very honored to be recognized in this way.
PostgreSQL is an open source project that continues to grow with the cooperation of the community. I would like to continue improving and contributing to the technology, and to support the DBMS that is the foundation of society.
Conclusion
We have introduced how members of the Fujitsu PostgreSQL team have contributed to PostgreSQL development in 2024 as part of the community. The fact that we have been able to produce new contributors is also proof that the Fujitsu PostgreSQL team has made continuous contributions.
In addition to code development, Fujitsu is also working to increase awareness of PostgreSQL through speaking at events and sponsorship. Fujitsu will continue to contribute to the further development of PostgreSQL in the future.
