Playing With Fire The Pratityasamutpada From The Perspective of Vedic Thought JPTS Jurewicz 2000
This article examines the Buddhist concept of pratītyasamutpāda or dependent origination from a Vedic perspective. It argues that dependent origination was not a completely new Buddhist idea, but had precedents in Vedic thought on causality and the interdependence of phenomena. The author analyzes how concepts in the Vedic Upanishads such as bandhu or connection, may have influenced the development of dependent origination in Buddhism.
