It shares land borders with Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal and Bhutan to the north-east, and Burma and Bangladesh to the east. India was home to ancient civilizations and trade routes and four of the world's major religions originated there, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism.
